I miss commuting and seeing mitzy every morning frown

Thats about the only thing I do miss. Change of job means ten minute walk to the station and a 22 minute train generally with a seat.

If its raining i'll get a cab home, stick it on expenses and be home in 40 minutes including a pint at the station.

All for £45 a week.

And the train has aircon.

Oh I used to do Angel Station to lakeside shopping centre. Best run I ever had was around 34 minutes when the kids were off and a few of us were making up time on the A13 hehe

To be fair that doesn't sound too bad at all! smile

I took the bike to work today (my first time out fully kitted out).
Was a little bit wobbly to begin with but soon enough got used to it! Old habits die hard smile

Do need to bleed the front brakes with a pressure bleed as they are a bit mushy but work, the clutch is fairly heavy so my hand is a little bit sore but again I suspect I'll get some muscle strength soon enough.
Comfy temperatures with the Richa gear and my work clothes underneath. Headphones in and enjoying the cruise.

Take it steady on the filtering, I had one person pull out with no warning yesterday morning, hit me in the rear and I only just managed to hold it, then on the way home a near miss of the same nature. In both cases it was in queing traffic, me giving well over a car door width gap, no indication just quickly pulling out presumably to U turn. Took the car in this morning!

Did a little bit of further searching over the weekend. I can buy them for 175 ish like you say and have them fitted.

I've had a quote from another place who I used to use back in the day and they have quoted me £238 instead of £282 for PR3s or BT023 for £213.
If you're still in need of tyres try Nigel at Piper autos (kings rd) he services motorcycles and supplies/fits tyres also.

I'll be careful with the filtering, ample revs to make people aware and full beam generally hope.
Had one idiot this morning pull out at a roundabout because he couldn't be bothered to stop, luckily my general road sense is fairly good biggrin

Regarding tyres, I didn't know, but I'm sorted for now (I think) - Ride In tyres in Reading, guy there is really nice, used to use him before.
If there are any issues I'll try Nigel smile
I could save 30 quid having it done with my mates help but it's a bit of a faff getting wheels off etc

Don't use full beam.

Ever

Highlights you as a moron and the road users won't even be able to see the position of your bike,

No need to make him feel worse wink

XJay, all becomes clear, watch what the majority do and you can't go far wrong, also don't get sucked into slipstreaming people, there are some real ninja like filterers out there and it takes time to get to that level .....

I will do! I've been quite tentative when filtering at the moment :-) since it's my first day back out!
Not really had to do too much.

Yes, thanks - I did gather that from your previous.

Question - On a motorway say for example the inside lane is queued up half a mile to the exit (as can happen sometimes) and I also want to get off at this exit.

What should I be doing in this situation, should I basically squeeze past on the line, should I stay in the middle lane and cut in at the end or should I filter on the inside between the hard shoulder and line of traffic?

Hi

Never ever the last option you presented, I tend to hold a position about a 3rd of the way out in Lane 2 and then filter in a car or two back from the front if its rolling or just squeeze down the outside of lane 1 if its stationary, one thing to be very vigilant of is late indecision, ie cars in the inside lane deciding they have had enough of queuing and launch themselves into Lane 2 or those in Lane 3 wakingu p and realising this is their exit and they MUST get off !!!!

Personally I wouldnt be squeezing down a stationary line of traffic and a flow. I'd look well ahead and just slip off at the last moment making your intentions clear.

This is probably wrong but I'm still here.

Disagree. In commuting traffic, fine. But on a bank holiday weekend on the A3 South approaching Guildford or the A31 into the New Forest (for example), you're dealing with a totally different road user with different habits and different levels of awareness and expectation of traffic density and might therefore behave erratically. In such cases, I bang the high beams on. Maybe 5 or 6 times a year out of 10,000 miles, I reckon.

The difference it makes to the tourist traffic is very noticeable. Traffic parts 2-3 cars further ahead, more people make an effort to move, etc.

I filter every morning through commuting traffic and that's as good as it gets. On weekends or Sumer tourist routes, the gloves are off and on occasion, the high beams go on.

Don't ride according what people think is cool, ride according to what keeps you alive. Except POLITE vests. They're st, obviously.

Don't be a dick - everyone else is entitled to their own few square feet of Tarmac without some knob on full beam* bobbing about in their mirrors

I'm not trying to own a piece of tarmac, I'm simply trying to ensure that I do appear in their mirrors. Bobbing about in their mirrors is exactly what I want to achieve. It sounds like you favour the stealth/invisibility approach. In holiday traffic with stressed out lemmings with cars full of kids all rushing to the same 3m square piece of rocky sand by on coast so they can arrive back in Bolton on Tuesday looking like a Swan Vesta, good luck to you.
