As per the thread title, I fancy a trip to the continent in the summer but my usual crowd aren't doing anything this year.

Is anyone going in a group that welcomes a tag-along? The Old Gits trip looks good but sadly the times don't work for me.

I'm on a Sprint ST.

Bump as well

I'd like to say yes as my mate keeps talking about it. But we'll prob never actually do it

Out of interest what would you like your trip to entail and how long to last ?

I fancy a trip to southern Germany, supposedly the area around the Nurburg has some decent roads.

You need a map to start off with!

If mate's aren't up for it just book it anyway and generally they think about it and come anyway.

If you do end up going to the continent on your own it's still fun and actually forces you to communicate with locals more than turning up with your own clique in tow.

A long weekend at a MotoGP (even if you couldn't give a toss about the racing itself) is a good way to increase your chances of bumping into like minded souls. Sachsenring is a nice 2 day ride from Calais, play in the Harz mountains, legal top speed stuff on Ze Autobahns, Eagle's Nest blah, blah, blah. Brno MotoGP also a good destination.

I am going to the Nurburgring in August I think, not sure of the crowd yet. Welcome to tag along

Germany has ace roads and the ride from the Ring down to Baden Baden and B500 has to be done at blitzkrieg pace. Just be careful about filtering though... it's not legal in Germany and some of them will stupidly try to block your path as your cruise down between lanes of cars...

Here at Pflantzgaren

Following Andy [Carlile] down the Foxhole...

And taking a breather on what was a sodden day!

Then flat out down to the B500 and stopping at Mummelsee for some Black Forest gateau smile

I'm doing a 4/5 day trip at the end of June down to the Moselle valley via Luxumbourg, then the nurburgring, eifel mountains and Spa.

900 miles from Calais and back, 4 days riding plus an day extra (probably staying in Cochem to do some touristy stuff and maybe a ride out), I'll be going solo. I'm not that keen on group riding unless you've ridden with the other person, you need to have similar pace/riding styles for a week long trip I think.

I'd be happy to share my tyre2travel itinary file though, I'm in the process of splitting it into days and it probably needs some touching up as I planned it a few months ago.

If this trip goes well I'm probably gonna do a 10/12 day trip in August/September down to the Alps via Belgium, Luxembourg on day 1, staying just south of Trier, before hitting the B500 and staying in the Black Forest on day 2, then a blast into the Alps and Interlaken on day 3. From there, not sure, probably staying at Interlaken a couple of days exploring the local passes before moving east for another couple of days.

What's the issue with going alone?

I'm heading to SE France/Monaco to meet my folks in June who will be touring Europe.

Only out-going ferry booked, rough idea of route. Want to do Route Napolean on the way back and subject to return crossing, try to find the E-Type Jag rotting in a field near Auxerre/Tonnerre I saw a couple of years (just to take a photo because I can't find it on google maps!).

It may end up being a solo trip. I'm going to do a Wales trip in the next couple of weeks to see how it goes.

If it helps, I did a 2 day trip very similar to that last year, my route/pictures etc are in this thread https://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t...

I went from Kent so a little further round the M25/M20 from you.

It may turn out to be a bit ambitious, but I'm going to maximise the day light hours, so I have about 12 hours to do a 6 hour journey so lots of stops if needed.

The route back I haven't mapped but will be A49/A44 to Oxford

Day 1...248 miles/6h17min as per Google

Thanks a good write up, I won't be going as far North/West as you went. The motorway slog around the M25 is awful, I have to do that for any Euro trips.
