Mind me asking where it's being done and how much? The only reason being im considering biting the bullet and getting it done on my 2001 Tiptronic this year.

What option are you going for, ceramic bearing?

This might be worth a read before you potentially waste your money....

Unless you're having the clutch done, I wouldn't bother. Change the oil often, and check the oil filter for debris should be enough. I have a magnetic sump plug, so can also see any bits that may point to an IMS issue. The yanks are great at overblowing this issue, and they all panic like old women over it. When my clutch was done 25 k miles ago, the IMS was left as it was in good nick. Most IMS bearings that have been changed have been found to be in perfect condition, and these ceramic ones aren't all that either.

The clutch went in my 2002 C4S back in January so after a little research I eventually went with Brookespeed in Southampton.

The decision was swayed by the fact that they aren't too far from me.

Clutch, RMS and an upgraded IMS £1,500 including VAT.

Well done OP for proactively protecting your car....the (IMS)engine issue is well documented and many options are offered/discussed from simply removing the plastic shields from the bearing to pre-emptive upgrade rebuilds by the specialists all of which help the situation albeit with different cost implications.
Do your research, speak to other owners who have experience of the upgrades/mods and choose what suits you. As my above post details, I went a bit "belt and braces" with a new bearing and a direct oil feed kit but that extra lubrication gives me peace of mind.
What amazes me is the number of posts on this and other sites from owners that have taken no precautions to future proof their engines, despite the exposure given to the potential problem, and now complain that they are facing a potentially huge repair bill. Just my opinion wink

Don't bother. I'd be more worried about bore scoring on a 3.6.

Should have bought a 3.4, these have no IMS worries (better bearings) and no scored bores (better piston coating).

Do they?

Not so sure about that!

Certainly an interesting opinion!

Right, from my perspective, and others will differ, i got it done, the LN Engineering solution and AOS as it was an engine / tip box out job. All in the I would rather invest in this than a potential engine failure at some stage. Yes everybody will have a differing opinion and that is their right, for me it makes sense..... I don't ever want to be one of the 1%'ers whom suffer with a failure.
