Hi
Just walked home after having been rear ended whilst riding through town.
I understand i need to inform my insurer (Lets find out whether MCE deserve the hate they get) But im not making a claim from them.

Will i lose my NCB and do i need to tell my car insurer?

Cheers
Ben

I'm quite surprised someone with your amount of time of the forum has to ask questions like that, and will no doubt be shocked at the outcome. Bit of a bugbear of mine.rolleyes

Suggest you read your policy, it will tell you what to do in the event of an accident.

Personally, if it's only minor and you're willing to sort it yourself, I wouldn't inform anybody.

If, and that's a very big if, the other party accepts full responsibility then, once every thing is sorted you will be able to get all your NCD back.

If it's non fault then deal with the other persons insurance. I let MCE deal with my non fault accident and it took ages.

Hord Fociblade

Not much chance of any thing other than non fault is there?
I wasnt even braking, they drove into the back of me.
Policeman said ive got nothing to worry about.

Anyway, ive informed MCE by email, but stated i dont want to claim through my policy.
Ive also emailed the car drivers insurance (NFU) and stated the facts. Is that right?

Your insurers will take over with that one for sure mate, let em do it, thats why we pay the them, of course you have to declare ANY accidents, fault or not, to both car and bike insurers.

Main thing is your OK eh, looks like it could have been much, much worse.

MCE have a very bad rep. NFU however have a very good rep. If NFU offer to handle the whole thing (which they will probably do if the person who hit you immediately admits liability) let them do it.

Anyone want to take a guess on whether it will get repaired or scrapped?
I dont want it back.

Will the rear subframe be bent?
How about the swingarm?

Wheel and tyre's fked.
New rear indicators.
Numberplate is snapped off.

I know its hard to say, but i definately dont want to be fobbed off with a bike with a bent chassis.

Just out of interest, why would you not use the policy you paid for and make the claim?

Quite possibly...but the fact is you cant do anything about it now, let the insurers do the running around, paying for storage and assessing it in the coming days/weeks, I was paid out very fairly and quickly when I last wrote a bike off.

Go and put the kettle on now..

Gets dealt with quicker i think. I can threaten NFU with an accident management company if they dont deal with it fast.

Got to be a write off surely? Bike parts prices are ridiculously high.

Might be worth buying back from insurance company though if it's cheap enough. I bet you could fix it with used parts quite cheaply.

I was thinking that.
Only issue is, i wouldnt want to ride it. And Cat D bikes are hard to sell.

Not hard, but the issue is finding the buyers for all the parts.
