Hi all , after stripping my engine 4.0 pre serp rover v8?
It is fitted with a H218 Kent camshaft which seems ok so I will be putting it back however on pulling it out I noticed it was retarded by 2 degrees!
Has anyone got some information so I can set this up and to why the cam was retarded ?
My assumption was so the valves did not hit the Pistons ?

Your opinions will be most welcome :-)

I could do with dialling this in this weekend !
Thanks ste.

Did you make the effort to check the timing properly before you removed the cam?

If so, that was very diligent!

That cam is a Kent cam, contact them for timing details.

Well yes I did sort off as I noticed it was retarded by 2 deg but as I was fully rebuilding the engine I was wanting to set it up properly :-)? But I will contact Kent for setup details !
Thanks

Or was the installer looking to move the power a bit around the rev range? More lower end pull compared to top end rev out?

Possibly bks and as stated just chain stretch, but its a thought.

Are you saying it was retarded because the timing marks didn't line up?

If so, all cams are different and the marks could well be standard 114 degree marks for a different cam.

It is too late to check with a dial gauge and a degree wheel or did you?

Speak to V8D, I'm fairly certain that my 218 was dialled in by Rob 2 degs out from standard. That was over 10 years ago and the reason escapes me...
