Am I right in thinking that early defenders had a big metal plate that if the vehical was stuck this could be used to move back and forward in an attempt to get traction or movement. Or did i just make this up? If it is real what is the system called?

You're making it up! No such thing ever fitted to the 90/110 or Defender by the factory.

Yes, sand ladders, also called bridging boards.

The modern versions are made from plastic or glassfibre and generically waffle boards, some have brand names.

Based on your description, there is no such thing. However, do you have anymore info, as it maybe there is something.

No not a sand ladder for traction on the ground. I meant basicly like a piston that fires forward or back under the vehical to jolt it forward. Obviously i just made it up. soooo patent pending.
