Bruce Anstey to race Honda RCV213V-S at the TT

Honda's 'road-going MotoGP bike' to race at the Isle of Man

Those of you who have missed the sound of a V4 at the TT (Norton notwithstanding) are in for a treat this year as The Valvoline Racing by Padgett's Motorcycles team has confirmed that New Zealander Bruce Anstey will be competing a race-prepared version of the Honda RC213V-S at the 2016 Isle of Man TT.

Can the RCV add to Anstey's TT tally?
Can the RCV add to Anstey's TT tally?
"It has always been a dream of mine to ride a MotoGP bike at the TT and this is as close as I will ever get," 10-time TT race winner Bruce says in the accompanying press release. "Clive Padgett is the only person in the world who could put something like this together and if he says it is OK I am with him 100 per cent. He hasn't just pulled it out of the crate and said we are racing it. Clive and the team have done a lot of work to the bike to make it ready for the TT."

Padgett's is currently preparing the bike and it will be the first time an RCV replica road bike has been raced in anger. "We can't get anything off the shelf so everything has had to be made bespoke," says Clive. "Things like the wheels, the K-Tech forks, the rear shocks, the brakes and the radiator guards have all had to be specially made."

What are Bruce's chances of success on the V4? The RCV is a full-on race bike with lights so the chassis isn't in doubt. And the Padgett's Motorcycles machine will be running the race kit, so it will be chucking out 200hp. But, and this is quite a big but, Bruce will ride the bike for the first time during practice week. Not that he seems fazed.

"The RCV should be an absolute weapon because it has loads of power but it feels as nimble as a 600," he says. "It should be stable too as it's over 2 inches longer than a Fireblade but is still really small and compact. I am really looking forward to seeing how it handles through the quick corners because it will be able to turn so fast."

Winning is a tough ask considering you now need to top 132mph average speed to be in with a chance of victory in the Senior. But, at the end of the day, who cares? It's an RCV at the TT and that's awesome! And Bruce on his day could well spring a surprise...

Lets hope that's only a mock up of the paint scheme.

V4s on the Mountain Course again - should be good.

I'm all for this and its a major selling point of the TT being able to run these 'specials' but I can't see this or the Suter being anywhere near competitive against the superbikes with years of road racing development behind them.

I'd like them to be running at the front but I'd be surprised if either finished a race - certainly anywhere top 10 could be considered a major result for them.

Brilliant, should sound the part around the course. Looks great in that paint scheme too. I really hope the bike is competitive and Bruce can fight for a win on it.

Should have enough power anyway, you would think they could get 220hp with some mild tuning so it should be as fast as a 15K S1000RR

If Honda are helping behind the scenes, this could be really competitive. I can't see any other reason to race one against a much cheaper Fireblade unless Honda have decided to try a "non factory" entry. That way they gave everything to gain and nothing to lose.

Whatever, I'll be keen to see it in action.

Presumably Clive Padgett won't be doing this as a marketing ploy...
They have a tried and tested Fireblade sitting there and the 213 doesn't need marketing as it's sold out!
Why spend the money on it if he doesn't think it can win?!

But I think he is.. he's got everyone talking about it and he's getting a ton of associated advertising/attention and his company/brand awareness.

I don't think they have much time to tune anything so it will have 200hp. It's enough!

It better be good from the off though, he isn't riding it until TT week, yikes!

Just looking up the specs it actually has 212/215 hp as standard [in S kit form] so even without any tuning that would be enough as you say. If it handles as well as the initial tests say should go well at the TT as it’s supposed to be super stable etc.

My old man will have had a hand in putting this together.

210bhp and same weight as a 600

Should be interesting to see how it goes.

Really glad this is happening, bike will sound awesome. Really hope they get it dialed into the roads, if it does and it wears its tyres well then it could be in with a huge chance.

Great colour scheme too.

The Suter 500 is pure bikeporn. Can't wait to see both of these on the coverage.

Interesting that the Suter is shown with gas Ohlins forks. They looks beautiful and straight of the MotoGP grid, but don't the front runner road riders universally run K-tech?

Would be interesting to see if they end up discretely slipping in some K-tech internals after practice week.
