Thanks for all the suggestions. I'm not totally sure these are technically cramps but I can't think how else to describe them. At it's worst I feel like I'd expect to feel if I'd ridden for miles using my leg muscles to suspend myself an inch or so above the seat.

I don't generally have leg cramps at other times, just the occasional one in the middle of the night.
It might be worth doing some strength training like squats, glute bridges, lunges etc (depending on what you have access to) and also stretches.

It might just be an underlying flexibility / joint / muscle problem that's being exacerbated.

I get cramp on longer journeys . I commute 130 miles on my zx7r to London.
Generally being tense doesn't help but most of the time I get it when riding with the insoles on the pegs (like the motorcycle racer I am).

Angling them more commuter type does help. And a leg wave does also help.

I did have a motorcycle accident ages ago which crushed my knee between the curb and the bike and had physio which didn't really help.

I am quite young but pretty stocky. 17st around 6ft.
