Whats the MX5 of the bike world?

an sv650 is effectively a Mondeo or an astra of the bike world.
Yous really aren't getting this, especially after its been done before.
No it isn't. A Dullville, F800 etc. might be a mondeo, but the SV650 is more like a sports bike that's down on power, very much like the MX5.Yous really aren't getting this, especially after its been done before.

yeah a completely dull looking, meh to drive commuter bike is the equivalent to a best seller in its class, sporty and known for the best handling characteristics you could have in a car.
Its a street triple.
a sv 650 is a astra or similar mundane piece of st.
Best seller doesn't mean best and the handling is bettered by others. Its a street triple.

As said there are other more mundane bikes to liken to an Astra.
I'd say the Street Triple is like an mk1 Elise or Civic Type R. Sportier than normal, holds it money, fairly common but still outclassed by more focussed competitors.

Honda C90.
Like an MX5 - under-powered by any measure, except probably enough power actually given the lack of grip, brakes, and grown-up handling. For folks proposing anything approaching a sports bike, the performance of an MX5 is no-where near that of a sports car, IMHO at least. Although they seem to have a fanatical following so I await a flaming.
I bought an MX5 for my wife as a runabout. Hateful thing. She now has an SLK which is better in every single respect as far as I can tell driving it and passengering in it. As kids we messed about with old C50s, C70s and C90s on the beach and I can assure you I had more fun on a step-trough C90 than I ever had in an MX5.

I have a mk1 mx5 and I would agree on the handling, it's good but not as good as some other cars I've had, e.g my Evo 5, Subaru, and s2000. That's what makes them fun though quite loose and pretty balanced and controllable. Mines on coilovers with the bigger arb's etc as well. Not much power (130bhp in mine), but the brakes etc. Aren't particularly brilliant so it doesn't seem to matter too much. I think in terms of popularity and recommendations they are comparable to a street triple, but in usability they are more comparable to something like an er6.

Seriously? Only on PH would people call between 7 and 8 seconds 0-60 underpowered or equivalent to a 90cc scooter. It is not going to set the world on fire, but "underpowered by any measure"... Don't be ridiculous.Like an MX5 - under-powered by any measure,

I had a hire SLK for a 6 weeks a while back whilst my car was fixed. It was fast, and quiet, but better in every respect? No way. It's handling was heavy, detached and uncommunicative and its gearbox was comically bad. It was fun I a muscle car, one trick pony way, but I was glad to have my MX5 back. You may not like it, but just the numbers sold should tell you this is a subjective thing. As for what bike. The question is, what bike is a reasonable price, cheap to run, fast enough in the real world and fun.

Its a very different car to an SLK. But MX5s are sports cars by definition, they also do have a good balance of attributes, which is why they're easy and fun to hustle. They're also a very easy and cheap car to live with so have a loyal following.Like an MX5 - under-powered by any measure, except probably enough power actually given the lack of grip, brakes, and grown-up handling. An 8 second to 60 car is brisk, especially combined with good cornering speeds and it being easy to drive. With a reasonably competent driver they'll keep up with most things when it gets tight.
So a C90? Utilitarian, old, slow, transport? No... That's just being a contrarian.
