So presumably you didn't mention anything about the incident to the new insurer? I'm sure they ask you to declare 'any accidents, claims or convictions' so even if there was no claim they would cite that as withholding a material fact, cancel your policy and proceed to roger you with a traffic cone forevermore.
Wrong; I have in fact mentioned it to my new insurer. Obviously they ask about any accidents, whether a claim is made or not. I told them about the accident, highlighted it was not my fault, but I did say I hadn't claimed (which is still true).

When this eventually gets sorted I will pass the updated info onto my new insurer.

No point lying to any insurance company, it'll only bite you in the ass when you need them most.

Just continue with the AMC, if they didn't think they'd recover it they wouldn't have taken it on, they'll most likely take the company to court, and it will be settled beforehand, without touching your insurance, as you say, it's repaired now and back on the road. Doesn't matter if you have a new insurance company.
This looks like the plan.

I emailed the AMC solicitors last night asking about my insurance situation; they didn't seem to think it was a problem and said that most insurers expect lapse cover/delays when the MIB are involved.

Good news, I suppose.

Your new insurers are irrelevant, your claim would have to be made against the insurer of the bike st the time of the incident, current insurers have no liability in regards historic claims elsewhere. Also I'm fairly sure the MIB won't entertain this as you had Comprehensive cover at the time, also your original insurer will have a process in place to handle such claims, you should have just gone straight to them and not an AMC I'm afraid.
Correct and 'Live and learn' I suppose.

Apparently my old insurer will still honour the claim if the MIB tell them to, so that is good news. Yeah, in hindsight I probably should have gone straight to my insurer but it seemed like such a straightforward case and I didn't want to have a claim on my insurance in the first year of riding.

Still, I won't make that mistake again....

I swear to God, if I ever have an accident again I'm just going to torch the bike and then slit my wrists....

Been a few months since I've updated this, but my inital concerns regarding fixing my bike prior to settlement have been proven correct. I wish I had listened to those nagging doubts!

Basically my old insurance company are saying they will have nothing to do with my claim as I have made repairs to the bike before they have assessed it. Not interested in the original engineers report or photographs, just a firm no.

I even offered to put all of the broken bits back on (they are still in the garage), but they said it was too late and they won't handle my claim.

Not entirely sure what to do now. The AMC are struggling to get payment for the bike storage and collection charges, so I have a horrible feeling this will all land back on me.

Note to self; leave it the fk alone until they have settled the claim!!!
