My Brutale 1090RR wheelies with just a little blip in 1st, a bit of a bigger twist in 2nd, from 1/2 revs in 3rd just close and open the throttle sharpish and its up. You have to become proficient at wheelie management or lie on the tank to try and keep it down until you are into 4th.

On a short wheelbase high power naked bike with lower gearing than the superbike its based on, the question becomes not how to do a wheelie, its how the fook do I control the wheelies smile
Yep, my tuono happily comes up in second just off the power and changing into 3rd at high revs. I'm ste at wheelies but I'm trying to improve a bit as I feel it is necessary on a big naked!

Yep, I've found that already after only a couple of weeks of ownership, had the front wheel up several times but not really what I class as a wheelie though.

Since I've been fortunate to own half decent bikes I've been less and less inclined to risk ruining them with wheelies, but then I bought the SMT990 and it does them for fun. I stopped using clutch years ago, preferring power and a bar tug or just using road crests when the chance allows. Less abusive to the bike. The MT-10 requires nothing more than accelerating in second gear biggrin
That just goes against the nature of a bike for me. I can't see how doing wheelies will "ruin" it either. Using the clutch is not "abuse", you don't know much about mechanicsnono

That is the next step, to learn that you need to practice slow wheelies and get them up to or near the balance point. The higher you go to begin with the longer you can carry the wheelie. I am talking parking lot, first gear and no more than 30 mph at the end of the wheelie.

Like on that video I posted.

If you are fussy about your bike then you won't get that far because it is likely that your bike will take damage in the process. But a wheelie on the power is still good fun smile

So it doesn't affect bearings over time then?

It effects a lot of things, but isn't that the point of the machine to use it to do what you can't in a car? I don't see how it is any more "abuse" than riding hard.

Gotta hand it to them, those hooligan/squid types in America do have impressive bike skills. Can you imagine the horror is Doris was driving down the road here and saw a display of that kind of thing!? It would never happen here biggrin

Edit: Also is it me or do they have more women involved in their motorcycle scene? Like here, motorcycling is seen as quite a blokey thing to do, a female rider is a rarity, let alone a female stunter.

Whereas there seem to be a lot of Youtube videos from the states tagged with the phrase "girl" rider.

Pray tell good sir, where have you amassed this wealth of wheelie knowledge?

After another failed evening, yeah I'm well up for that.

Phone isn't working until tomorrow but give us a text/call then.

Nope, common sense would suggest that dropping your front wheel on the deck from height would cause increased wear on the suspension. Similar to hitting speed bumps at a fair pace or massive potholes.

I'm all for wheelies, by the way; but suggesting that it has absolutely no effect on the suspension wear and tear is just plain wrong. It may be minimal, but it will still have some impact.

Wheelies are still cool

That's the dream boss. I intend to drill a hole in my lid for tabs though.

I agree about the clutch thing. Last night I had a go at this power wheelie business, I got the front wheel just up twice but only in first. But even my lame attempts were felt pretty brutal.

No if you read my reply to Fleegle I stated that wheelies effect lots of things.

Yeah I saw one in the North West England but that was it. £150, 1200 bandit with bars. Max 4 per bike. Still looking though.

As you say, most of them seem to be in London/Surrey but the idea of flying down special seems a bit tragic.

The school I looked at started off on quads then moved onto bikes. Sure it was the south of England though.

I'd be up for going too.

That is just an epic picture BN.

I want to be you.

I want to be on you...

Anyway, as for popping epic mingers. I would love to, I dream of lifting my front wheel off the ground in a panty wetting manner, however I am a big fanny who is scared of hurting himself and scratching my bike.

Plus, at the moment I only have a 44 year old 38 bhp smoker so I'm not sure it is ideal for such shenanigans..
