I'd second the TDM. I had an old Diversion 900 for a weekend way back when and it was an incredibly capable machine.

Aprilia Pegaso Strada?

Not sure about panniers TBH. But it's what I use to commute, and leave at Heathrow funnily enough. I've got a top box which ruins the 'soft supermoto' looks somewhat but makes it practical. Huge underseat storage too. I have a locker at Heathrow but between a top box and underseat you've a fair bit of storage, then could you use a cable lock to lock your jacket to the bike?

660cc Yamaha single, bulletproof. Around 50bhp which isn't much, but being a single the way it's delivered is a) funny and b) useful around town. It's very light and flickable. Hilarious fun, unlike any of my other bikes can I actually hold wide open throttle for a while. Very very good for filtering and around the city. Fun on B roads too. £3000 is top of the market, I paid £2500 for mine.

If mine were to die, which I don't think it will (I've had NO reliability problems, I'll admit I was worried about an Aprilia but it's been faultless, year round), I'd replace it with another straight away.

Honda Transalp. A lot to of them come with luggage. Will be a bit lacking in motorway poke with a passenger though.
