Hi all... I haven't ventured in here before being more active on Biker Banter and the classic car forums on ph.

I have recently purchased a 55 chevy bel-air (pre-brexit so exchange rates were better) and it's with me now.

I am looking to buy some torque Thrust wheels or some halibrands in 17 or 18"s. Can anyone recommend a us supplier they have used?

I did call northhants tyres but they simply order the wheels in... so I was thinking why not buy direct and cut out the middleman.

Any leads let me know?

Can't recommend any particular US supplier, but I can recommend Ron @ STS Imports for shipping.

Hi James,

Well I looked up the style of wheels I wanted from the American Racing site and called you guys. The lady I spoke to said you didn't have the ones I wanted in stock 17" x 7 front and 8 (4.5bs) at the back and would have to order them.

Also if I made a mistake (in the measurement) the wheels couldn't be returned.

I would really love to just buy a complete set of wheels and tyres from you in one hit if possible. That would suit me best.

I call you tomorrow when I have looked up the model number.

Called Northants and spoke to a chap there..

They don't stock any of the wheels I want but do have fully polished Torque Thrust 2's... so I can get a set of those if I so wish.

Waiting to hear back about a wheel and tyre package.

Sorry I dont visit this page a lot.

So let me just clarify a few things with you.

1. If you wanted to come down to us to test/trial fit a set of wheels and tyres on your car that is no problem. The issue is with sending the wheels and tyres out some customers are not quite as careful as we are when fitting the wheels and so if the wheels/tyres dont work they send them back with scratches, dents in the wheel dish from dropping wheel nuts, ect which is why we do not offer a mailorder test fitting service.

I do not know of any other company in the UK who offers this service and I believe it is our service to customers that sets us apart as we have been family owned and run now since 1948.

2. We dont really stock the T70R as is not a very popular style when compared to the Torq Thrust 2 or the Torq Theust 2 Classic. If you wanted a more sharp spoked design please take a look at the Rocket Racing Fuel available in all the sizes from stock in Polished and Gray.

3. The woman I believe you spoke to is still quite new and so doesnt have the knowledge that most of the sales guys do who have been doing this 25+ years day in day out so I apologise for this.

4. Our systems were down today if you are still waiting for a call back reference a tyre+wheel package so you should have a telephone call tomorrow morning with a price for you.

5. If you wish please give me a call on 01252 318666 and ask to speak to James

Thanks for the informative post. I am sure it will help others. Also no need to apologise...

I called and spoke to BJ? He priced up a set of wheels for me but the tyres he managed to get were Runway, which frankly wont do as I do want some quality rubber on my car.

I didn't know you had other brands in stock such a Rocket. Food for thought.

What I have decided to do is carry out my disc brake conversion and also lower my car slightly and then book it in for wheel fitting. This will mean I can be sure the wheels will fit and also choose some better quality rubber, although the car will only be cruising at 70mph as its really not geared that high.
