So I've agreed to buy my bosses old e46 330i manual touring. He was going to mot it and sell to me for £600, however it's failed it's mot on 2 rear snapped springs, needs a new tyre and a small patch of welding. So he's said £350 and I can take it.

Cheap and cheerful! So looking up some prices for springs + new rubber mounts would come to like £70. So I thought I might just refresh it all and I have found coilovers ranging from £260 to £900. Obiovisly im not going to spend much but seeing as I can get full suspension all round for fairly cheap (it's done 170k miles so imagine it's all fairly worn), what would you say towards something like this?

Obviously not going to be amazing but it's cheap (not the cheapest though).

I've had both £200 ebay specials and £900 HSDs on my E36. If you were going to track the car then the ebay specials don't compare fullstop, on the road you'll be absolutely fine with the ebay ones, they ride fairly well and built quite well contrary to all the scare stories people will tell you.

E46 and E36 suspension setups are pretty much the same so i imagine it would be the same for a 330i smile

I don't plan on tracking it, I don't even plan on really lowering it as I live up a dirt track.

Just they appear cheaper than buying 4x springs and 4x dampers to sort the shagged suspension.

Stick with OEM, you will only destroy the ride quality. It's not a sports car, it doesn't need sports/ track coilovers.

Other than being slightly stiffer will it not handle better than 170k mile old suspension? If I was to stay oem it would cost more.
