What do people think about this one.

My Boys school is being rebuilt (new building, knocking down old school) and before the summer holiday we were told due to this the School would re open on the 12th September.
I've just received a parentmail saying the new school is delayed until October and that to return to school at the old building on the 6th September.

the problem is we have booked a holiday from the 2nd - 9th September as this was outside of school holidays for most schools its much cheaper.

So where do we stand as I'm sure the school is going to try and say it's going to be unauthorised Absence. I'm sure from a legal stand point we'd have a good case to argue, as the school charge £120 per parent I'd rather not be put in a position of having to stump up £240 for this.

Yep, we had a letter from the school saying the new building would be complete and to return to school on the 12th September

Edit to add.
Got an email on the 25th July confirming all set to return on the 12th and detailing where the new entrances are, etc.

Or just tell them you have a holiday booked based on the original dates and have no intention of cancelling it. In other words tell them to sod off.

I think you're worrying unnecessarily.

I really can't see how they can expect 100% of people to turn up earlier than originally stated. I would just go and refuse to pay any fine.

You played by the rules, then they moved the goalposts.

say you're having the time off to prepare for the labour conference, and mention how dissappointed you are because the teachaers are not planning a daytrip to see the conference for themselves. Forward together, you'll have their full support

Also don't forget to point out that, actually, he'll learn far more on the holiday (visiting the Acropolis, the Pyramids, and the Nazca lines)than he's learnt from beardy lentil-munchers the school employs as Teachers, and also point out how many days they were on strike over the last few decades.

Alternatively just give them a phone call. They'll be fine about it smile

I would imagine they'll be fine with it, you won't be the only one with plans that this interfers with.

I took my little girl out of school for the last week in July, told the head that I'd be doing it, he simply said it'll be unauthorised absence but I know why you're doing it, if I could, I would as well!

Indeed.

"Sorry Sir/Madam,

Tobias is unable to attend school until the previously specified date of 12th September. Please advise of any book chapters Tobias should skim to remain several years ahead of his peers and teachers.

Kind regards,
Simoid"

For a good school this is quite common, WE get letters home / notification on a wednesday that friday is the schools dress up as a prince , etc day...

Thanks to all., I just wanted another view on it, They've asked for us to email the school to confirm receipt of the parent mail, so I'm just going to ignore and take the holiday as planned, whe he goes back I'll tell them to sod off smile

Don't worry then, you could already be on holiday away from email access
