To be fair 'the attitude test' has worked well for me in the past so i really shouldn't complain but the idea of it still grinds on me for some reason.
It grinds on you? I quite like the idea of the cops using a bit of discretion where appropriate.

The number of cars is irrelevant and we don't know what speed the police clocked him at.
No it isn't. There's a difference between an empty road and one where the traffic is atleast 7/8 deep.

I'm not a speed nazi but I know if I'd been the traffic police patrolling that road I'd be stopping the OP over someone making progress on a quiet road.

When one person gets the jail for 130 and one gets 3 points on the basis of one persons personal opinion, yes, it does a bit.

It would probably grind on you a bit if you were the former, no?

Probably, but if I'd failed the test I'd only have myself to blame, manners cost nothing after all.

Got stopped (about that area) for less....but maybe over a more sustained distance....with little in the way of villages. Charged with DD. Cue sleepless couple of months until summons arrives. When it did arrive the DD charge had miraculously vapourised. I count myself lucky.

Currently scouring the classifieds for something more pipe and slippers.

For those that say 'check your mirrors' - that won't necessarily help
No way they saw that... That was my worry when I stopped, and the main reason I feel lucky though!

They actually complimented my riding, so definitely not following long... biglaugh

I was thinking of a crosser. Then I'll get booked for trespassing though...

I managed to get away with a €180 fine for a combination of four different driving offences all committed at the same time, which would probably add many extra pages to this thread if I were to mention them. Suffice to say, it was by far and away the stupidest thing I've done in my whole life. A friend who was in convoy with me and committed two less offences ended up with €90. I feel like getting out and admitting straight away you've been an idiot, plus not being a scrote with no licence / insurance / mot etc can go a long way. The police were incredibly angry at first, but once they realised the cars weren't stolen, we weren't carrying drugs etc, they calmed down quite a lot, with one of them admitting that he may have been similarly stupid at my age.

I also got away with booting it onto an empty motorway up to about 120 with a police bike behind me and testing my acceleration against an Audi S3 which turned out to be unmarked police. Both times they flashed their lights and didn't bother stopping me, and I continued my journey at 70MPH.

I reckon I've been incredibly lucky tbh - have never had so much as a speed awareness course. My luck will probably run out one day, but I know better than to post a thread on PH asking for help if it does tongue out

At least it was all self-inflicted! I did make £350 profit on the welding set I sold in expectation of a big fine, so that went a good way towards fixing the bike smile

My lucky escape was on the M25. It had been shut due to an accident and I filtered to the front of the stationary traffic on my FJR arriving at the scene just as they were finishing sweeping it all up. A few minutes later and they reopened it.

A completely empty M25 was a bit of a temptation but as the needle passed 85 I noticed a car pull alongside me, looking over it was a couple of trafpol, and the one in the passenger seat just wagged his finger at me.

Considering the overhead gantries were still showing 40, I think I came off rather lightly.

Received a NIP today for doing 58 in a 50.

Very frustrating as it was a great ride out and i was being religiously cautious in all the 30 and 40 limits it was also the last ride of the year for me.

Hopefully a SAC to save the insurance rape, we'll see.

Three points wouldn't lead to your botty being rearranged by an anal intruder so I wouldn't worry too much... if you're on 6 already then its time to start riding like a puff biggrin

If your doing an indicated 130 and you see blue lights. Run.

Just wind it up 160+ and get the fk out of there and hide. I for one am not going to prison for speeding. I don't know who stole my bike and was riding that fast but it sure as hell wasn't me. I am not that crazy.

Sports bikes belong on track in my world now.

Road bike needs to be:
No fairing
100 bhp
To be kept under 100mph

This is why I didn't end up buy a MT10. I went and got a XJR1300 for café racering.

You probably wouldn't go to prison for an indicated 130...you'd definitely go to prison for winding it up to 160+ and failing to stop though.

Is that seriously what you would do?

And when they notice the "stolen" bike in your garage?

Or would you ditch it somewhere to complete the cover story?

I think you are missing an attribute of the attitude test. No use being polite and courteous if you are a grumpy miserable fker.

Hope that helps smile

Thank god for copper's discretion.

Need more of it and fewer cameras.

Sure a good attitude when stopped can only help you.

I had a similar irritating NIP last year, 37 in a 30 going through Chipping Norton, 7.00 am in the morning. They should have sent me a thank you letter for being so considerate!

Anyway I took the option of half a day off work to sit in a stuffy overheated classroom at Upper Heyford and listen to a sanctimonious ex-copper lecturing a load of middle class retirees about the ills of driving too fast.

This thread is the very reason I went from this

for which I got a Section 59 notice on the day I collected it hehe and where every ride involved significant 3 figure speeds, to this

which despite being hugely down on power to the GSXR is a massive amount of fun and the speeds are much lower but the riding more rewarding smile

The nurse I had when I was giving blood last week had done the same from a GSXR to an SV for exactly the same reason.

They're a really good bike, really enjoyable and way under £2k for what you see. Win/win smile
