Fantastic! Regardless of what you think 'you' might have done while munching your Panini, "yer, I would have smacked him in the head and pulled his helmet off and spanked him with it' it's actually quite a brave thing what these chaps did to prevent the theft. They need to catch this scum though before they or others get hurt.

Agreed but, as with the references to 'big-nose' on the other page the law doesn't seem to be interested. I bet they'd take action against any 'successful' vigilante though.

Well done to that biker type who tried to push the scooter over. I am 99% sure I would do the same thing on coming across something like, that I can't understand why more people don't. Just run at the side of the scooter and push them off / over & they're fked.

I had two scooters last night acting in a similar manner last night about 9pm to me - they caught me up and ended up over taking me (I'm on a Tmax which scrotes love). The passenger on one of the scooters was constantly turning right round to look at me. They were skinny sts approx age 15-17 I could tell by their body shape. All with balaclavas on etc so you couldn't see fk all of them there's no way I could identify them.

Also, not to criticise but why the fk can't people film? Why are they so useless ffs?

I read today bike theft in London up 45% year on year. If that was another common crime there would be a big crackdown campaign on it....but the only victims here are minority bike owners and insurance companies that ultimately charge the owner anyway.

What will it take to raise public awareness and what can the Police actually do about it if there is no real deterrent ? If you nick 10 bikes, get caught, what do you get, community service ?

Yep, its gone mad and there appears to be very little being done about it.

I know of a bike that was nicked in London this year (in daylight hours). Quite a nice Italian bike. It was lifted and put straight in a van. The bike had a tracker on it which was found & removed from the bike in under 6 minutes after it was lifted. While the tracker was still active it could be traced as having gone past a local authority operated CCTV camera - which was located right by the roadside, on a pole about 20 feet in the air.

It was therefore possible to say within a 20-30 second window exactly when the vehicle it was in passed the camera

Enquiries revealed that not only was the camera on but that it was also pointed at the road at the time.

Unfortunately it was also apparently the case that the CCTV footage was not good enough to determine the number plates of any passing vehicles.

fking useless.

If you own a nice bike you simply can not park it on the street in London any more and expect it to still be where you left it when you come back.

Yep, shame really isn't it

As i need to leave my bike on the street in London I always buy <£1,500 salvage (cat C/D) so it looks tatty and deflects my anger when scooter tts scuff it but also never wash it - anything to make it less attractive to theieves

This I find ridiculous: 'In addition, many suspects are not pursued if they are not wearing a helmet because of concerns for their safety.' fk 'em!!!!! Ram them off the road into something big & heavy, like iron railings or other assorted street furniture! Would save all of us a lot of tax/insurance premium hikes & plod would have less scrotes & paperwork to deal with. fking nanny state!

LOL if you're committing crime this will make the square root of f**k all difference. You are dealing with people that have zero respect for the law let alone using a vehicle on the road legally let alone for legal purposes.
In most cases steal the scooter/bike and/or remove the plate.. 90-95% chance currently no police will stop you. Crime has gone up this high% because there is no one policing for this in London, there is almost no chance of being stopped let alone caught.
