I don't imagine that's real otherwise Brainbox there would be arrested pretty quickly.
You wouldn't believe the amount of scrotes that incriminate themselves on social media!
If it is for real and the Police aren't doing anything about it then it's a sad state indeed that we are in, especially considering the way that legal owners are often treated for minor compliance offences. frown

You would also think (hope) that there might be someone out there who's had a bike nicked that would like to have words with the stbag...

Well, genuine or not the above lead has got to be worth following up?

Maybe the BiB here can elaborate but the line we're being fed in Edinburgh is that police are not allowed to trawl even publicly accessible pages on social media without special permission from above. They can accept print outs that we provide (print outs, in 2016?!) but even then not much happens.

I get that it could be a fake profile setup to wrongly incriminate someone else and i get that they can't prove a connection to a real person easily, but it still feels like a good source of intelligence is being wasted even if it would never be used in evidence. These scroats are not low key, they will incriminate themselves in front of anyone, even the police, so just a few alerts setup on social media to give you the intelligence about where they're hanging out tonight...

Even members of the public can set up those types of alerts with Google and they work very well. Surprised the 'normal' police don't use them but pretty sure other forms of police - anti-terrorism will use them.

Yet they caution people for criticising Police online, and Welsh Plod are asking us to send them our dash cam footage of dodgy driving so that they can nick people; http://www.north-wales.police.uk/news-and-appeals/... and you know full well that if you post a video of yourself riding fast they'll be on you like a rash, but thieving scumbags can openly offer stolen bikes for sale to potential buyers without, it seems, any recourse.

Funny old world...

Yes and the plod wonder why were not on their side? We want to be on plods side when we see that they are on our side and making a difference.

You are a taxed licensed and insured rider... I am more easy for the police to harass you than actually go for thieves and cretins.

I've just seen the bds!

Circulating around Upper Richmond Road in Putney. On a black bike, couldn't see what, but a big naked, not a scooter. No numberplate, obviously. Same helmets, same big conk.

Called the police, 5 mins on hold... But still, let's hope they get the little dheads. Or put the fear of God up them at least... I'm at my mates house, had I not fancied a glas of wine I'd have ridden here too. Thank god I didn't...

Hard to comprehend that, it seems we know who he is, where he lives, where he works, what he looks like and yet he's still out there brazenly nicking bikes and offering them for sale.

Maybe the Police haven't seen this? or maybe they just don't have the stones to deal with it? preferring instead to sit in an office sending out fixed penalty notices for compliance offences, watching youtube videos to catch self-incriminators or facebook to detect people calling others fat.

Hardly need to be fookin' Poirot to at least make a start on this on - shame on the Police.

I just hope that if/when someone does get hold of this toe-rag and give him what he deserves that the Police show the same leniency/lack of interest...

Dear all,
Saw 3 guys on 2 unplated tmax type scooters in w1 lunchtime yesterday- corner of wigmore st / welbeck st , checking out bike bays. 2 work colleagues have recently had a scooter nicked and a nice triumph damaged during daylight/ working hours.
I have read the trail on this and apologies for the naivety of the post as a first time poster but- What more can I/ we do with the met and / or Westminster to fight this ?

Only that their was a reasonable protest in London last weekend and I believe a petition was handed in to no. 10.
There is a lot of info on that site, lots of bikes being reported stolen everyday.

I see that MCN's long term Multistrada Enduro - £17k new - has been stolen. According to the article, Northants police "made it clear that they are not prepared to sift through two hours of (car park CCTV) footage to catch criminals".

The Northants Police and Crime Plan PDF document has a section entitled Drugs Eradication and the Reduction of Acquisitive Crime, but I can't find any reference to "acquisitive crime", which I assume is the activity carried out by "thieving scrotes".

If anyone is looking for a change in career, stealing stuff in Northamptonshire may be a viable option. smile

EDIT: They have a mission statement!

Northamptonshire Police: Statement of Mission and Values
We will act with integrity, compassion, courtesy and patience, showing neither fear nor favour in what we do. We will be sensitive to the needs and dignity of victims and demonstrate respect for the human rights of all.
We will use discretion, professional judgement and common sense to guide us and will be accountable for our decisions and actions. We will respond to well-founded criticism with a willingness to learn and change.
We will work with communities and partners, listening to their views, building their trust and confidence, making every effort to understand and meet their needs.
We will not be distracted from our mission through fear of being criticised. In identifying and managing risk, we will seek to achieve successful outcomes and to reduce the risk of harm to individuals and communities.
In the face of violence we will be professional, calm and restrained and will apply only that force which is necessary to accomplish our lawful duty. Our commitment is to deliver a service that we and those we serve can be proud of and which keeps our communities safe.

I'm sure there's something missing from that mission statement, but I just can't quite put my finger on it...

Thanks for the sensible responses- to avoid the threat, work colleagues are choosing to parkin the Q park under cavendish square, the NCP at £4 per day and asking Westminster cc to provide ground anchors- unlikely and reduces parking spaces too. No one is looking to park at vere street /chapel place bays- far too easy to get a van in and load up someone's pride and joy!
