The problem is simple, cutbacks by this govt have led to a soft police approach (less patrols, more cctv ) which leads to a different type of officer who can't be asked to chase two mopeds with no number plates being ridden on the pavement (there is a you tube video on this). This then allows the thieves to be be more brazen and bold, knowing that a passing patrol is unlikely or even a patrol to rush their, due to cutbacks.

Blame the people in power.

OK, but the cutbacks are being carried out as there simply isn't enough money to finance more/better policing. The logical conclusion is tax rises. Is Joe Public prepared to be squeezed in order to lower bike theft??

The laws to address this situation correctly already exist. The problem is that motorcycle theft is not seen as a high priority. If we really want this addressed then the only way is to make it be seen as a high priority. Write to your local council, your Police and Crime Commissioner (Do they really commission crime????), your MP and anyone else you can think of. Get your friends and relatives to do the same. Join MAG and campaign within that group to get this addressed. Organise demonstrations as the French bikers do. 2000+ plus bikes riding SLOWLY, carefully and considerately across London and other cities on a busy day should get some attention.

Can’t be bothered to do that or expect someone else to do it? Just how much of a priority is bike theft to you?
In a nutshell, this ^^. When it becomes an issue for a large section of voters, it becomes an issue for MPs, when it becomes an issue for MPs, it becomes and issue for the Police. You wont get one without the other. The Police don't act in response to crime, they react in response to what the government tells them is important.

Yoda.

Unfair to blame it on just this government. The writing was on the wall when PCSO's were introduced in 2002

Alternatively less wastage of our taxes on <insert your own Govt waste gripe here> so we can fund an effective Police force from our existing (already substantial) taxes.

I'll go for foreign aid to overseas despots who spunk it on gold plated Mercs

It's not just bikes, round my way the local facebook groups are escalating issues to the Police, issues they are unaware about as there are no Police patrolling. We need to stop the Austerity this govt seems intent on applying forever and actually start investing in our society.

While we're on a scapegoating bandwagon (will we get Fatcha in this thread?), how about diverting good money back to reasonable causes rather than policing Twitter and chasing imaginary hate crimes? How about ditching layers and layers of non-job diversity roles carrying strong manager salaries?

Some tracksuited ahole stole my bike in broad daylight. It's because of the Tories...

For every complex problem there's a simple, obvious and wrong solution!

You reap what you sow, cuts in all aspects of society have led to this.

Austerity, cutbacks, etc etc. There is only so much £££ in the pot. You could try the Robin Hood approach & redistribute some of the mega-rich's wealth, but that ain't going to happen any time soon. So vote for income tax rises & maybe they'll add a few more coppers to the ranks. I'm not holding my breath.

We didn't need austerity , we needed investment to get us out , ask Germany and how they continued investing in their industry for example. We just carry on selling off anything that was worth investing in (National Grid the latest).

It never ceases to amaze me how many people don't understand how (much) of this overseas aid works.

The real reason we do it is because officially we can't reach an official agreement, or bribe people. Instead we agree to give them "aid", and it grants us access to trade/movement of people/security/preferential treatment, in many of these countries.

Of course it lines the pockets of the rich and buys gold Mercs. We're paying them for access or services.

I wonder if Nathan Bick is the main one that we've seen in these videos? I see he has been arrested on wed due to series of moped thefts. Looking at his facebook he is a bikelyfe tt and loads of pics on different scooters

Completely agree.
Also, there are many that believe WW3 will be a devastating nuclear confrontation between India & Pakistan. I can't recall the figures, but we give £millions in order to keep a lid on this.
