A 44% increase on 22000 thefts is still a lower number than 2001's total (and that increase is only in one part of the UK, so not fully representative)

Article here
OK, but the article talks about numbers. Are there not fewer bikes on the street today than in the 80's? I wonder what the actual percentages are like...

I'm going to see if I can keep track of it. Bet he gets, what, 9 months in a young offenders? + I bet no insurance, no licence, stolen scooter etc are all not punished.

Been watching bike theft vids on youtube...

it seems impossibly to hold onto anything with 2 wheels in london
they dont even bother with bolt croppers.. its all battery grinders with plasma disks.

for example

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kw74y5xCd1c

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5t0Qz_vrG-Q

as someone that would like to get a theif magnet one day.. how can i make sure i keep it? locks seem to pose no problem, and members of the public\security guards dont give a crap so crowded places are no deterrent.

would a chain seath made from this

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E0ejn7wB9vM

help ? once the angle grinder is stuck in it they would have to abandon the grinder entangled in it.

I wondered if that was happening but it's not obvious on a phone screen.

I'm not sure if it's the teeth of the blade that get entangled so maybe not as an angle grinder doesn't have teeth as such.

You can see Luigi's (or whatever his name is) foot on the rear peg of the Triumph.

One would have thought if all we need is a kevlar sheath over the chain, then all the chain manufacturers would be doing that buy now. I guess a cutting disk will go through just as easy.

The only real answer is to deal with the root cause; chop the hands of thieves using their own disc cutter wink

I heard all of this kicking off today. Helicopter around, plus a huge number of sirens. Didn't realise what was kicking off.

Thank fk.

Sadly we know what the justice system will deliver. Huge kudos to the police involved, looks like they did incredibly well. I'm sure they'll be as disappointed as we will at the sentencing.

All good stuff to reduce crime but these news articles don't mention the police targeting organised motorbike thieves - it's gotta be next, surely.
