Pretty much why I've done this, same old roads before heading back. Normally with my week off my day job I'll work my second job, I've not had a day off from either for a good year now.

I know it isn't too far away, but what things will I need to take with me?

Going to take a map book and possibly a spare phone just in case, anything for the bike? Bare in mind I'm not any good at fixing things!
A map and an RAC/AA card will be all you need. Stop in smaller cafes and while eating ask if you can charge your phone. I have never wanted a spare (apart from when it ran out of battery in between).

You'll need the battery to take pics because Wales is ace. Not as good as Scotland or Ireland but still lots of fun!

Don't always stay on big A roads or even B roads. Some tiny little back roads can take you great places. Just explore and have fun!

RAC/AA is next on the list, waiting until pay day on Friday smile. I've already got a spare phone, so isn't a huge problem, just in case mine dies in the arse end of no where and I need it.

I'm hoping to borrow my sisters camera for it, although a phone would be easier...perhaps power packs.

If this goes OK, I like the idea of Scotland, will have to be next year as I'm out of holiday.

I got a 16,000mah battery pack from Amazon (loads to choose from) but its really handy for weekends away on the bike, it'll charge the phone/GoPro etc a couple of times, and at a push you can USB it back into the bike to charge it back up while you ride. £20/25 gets you a decent one.

If you get up to Bala A4212/B5109 are certainly worth a go, if you do nothing else. A470 (during the week) is amusing for the main too. Avoid A5 where possible, or just sit back and cruise, the Police do like to sit in waiting there.

Tail pack purchased. Sadly the one on the other page wasn't in stock at the closest store to me. RAC cover sorted. Tomorrow my bike is going for a quick chain adjustment (I would do it myself, but bike doesn't have a centre stand and I don't have a stand annoyingly). Only costing me £15/£20 though.

Looking forward to it, should be fun.

Loosen axle nut and two adjuster lock nuts. Half turn either side of adjuster nuts, tighten lock nuts, tighten axle nut.

I had no idea you could do it on the centre stand! Will do that tomorrow smile. For some reason I assumed the back wheel had to be off the ground.

Doll-geth-lie is closer, but still not quite right since the ll sound in welsh doesn't have an English equivalent.

Absolutely no idea if you will finish up anywhere near Shropshire on your run but have just done the same weekend as this and travelled from Shrewsbury to Clun. As part of the journey What a stupendous road, 'flip flop' all the way and not a single surprise in any corner.

Try http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a... for some soft luggage recommendations. The roll bags are brilliant and you can get some really cheap ones.

I live in Leintwardine, just south of Clun.

The roads are amazing and empty.

Annoyingly I didn't have a sprocket big enough, took it to where I got it from and they did it for £8! Impressed with that.

Fitted the usb charger, it's direct to the battery and constantly on, will it drain the battery if not used every day? If so I'll disconnect it over night.

I would avoid the Elan Valley at all costs on a sportsbike; yes, the views are nice but the road is not suitable.

I live here and ride around mid-Wales all the time.

West End Caffi in Llandovery, A40 towards Carmarthen, turn off soon after to Lampeter.

Lampeter to Tragaron to Aberystwyth. Before actually getting to Aberystwyth, turn off to Devil's Bridge, ignore turning off for Elan Valley and continue to A40. BP station and then head towards Aberystwyth for a couple of miles and stop in Red Kite Caffi for a coffee.

Turn back around and take the A44 to Llangurig and then turn left towards Newtown.

From Newtown take the best road in the UK to Crossgates, at the roundabout turn left for the Fuel and a coffee.

From Crossgates, turn left out of fuel station on A44 and after a while you will see a pub with a sign post for Hundred House, take this road all the way to Builth Wells.

Ride through Builth Wells and see the sign for Upper Chapel, take this road to Brecon. Once you get to Brecon, turn right on the A40 back to Llandovery for tea and medals.

It will probably draw a tiny bit of power, but I don't think it would drain a battery overnight. Personally I'd stick it on a relay switched by something like the indicator power feed, that way you'll never have a problem.
