As a North Walian I hereby apologise profusely for the weather today! Not a good day for the zip-wire I'm afraid but I agree, if you get the chance, do it, it's brilliant!

Absolutely no idea if you will finish up anywhere near Shropshire on your run but have just done the same weekend as this and travelled from Shrewsbury to Clun. As part of the journey What a stupendous road, 'flip flop' all the way and not a single surprise in any corner.
I live in Leintwardine, just south of Clun.

The roads are amazing and empty.
The A488? Can you suggest some good roads to try round that area please? I'm not far away and always end up in north wales, would be good to have a change
For a try, start off in Newtown and head South at your leisure to Builth Wells via Crossgates. Then cut East over to Presteigne via Hundred House and the Radnors (The Harp in Old Radnor is a lovely pub with stunning views).

Then head North for Bishops Castle via Knighton & Clun up on the way back. You could pop through Leintwardine - the Lion by the river is a lovely place in the afternoon, or to watch the sunset - and then head North West again. Don't worry about going over as far as Craven Arms. It's a dull place and the only main road out up towards Shrewsbury is rubbish. Bucknell and North of there is stunning as well.

It's a relatively small loop and you could extend it by pushing a bit further South to Brecon, for example, but then you'd end up on busier roads.

You could go on even less traveled roads but they'll be more like lanes with rubbish visibility and at this time of year, there's a lot of mud starting to get dumped on the roads.

I've been incredibly luckily with the weather. First half hour was raining, went along the A5 (lovely road/views). Then only started raining when I got to the arse end of no where in Snowdonia, half hour from the zip line I think.

I was going to do it, but forgot to take a spare set of clothes and didn't want to do it in my bike stuff ha. Plus I hate heights!

Ended up going along past Cwm Penmachno, that is a horrible road. Weather was ste. Couldn't see my hands on the handlebars at the worst!

Back at the b&b now. Early night hopefully, didn't want to do too many miles (did 175) as got nearly 300 to do tomorrow.

That road past Cwn Penmachno, did you go up the left fork to the top? Or are you talking about going past there on the A5. If the first option, it joins the main part of the B road from the A5 just after Pentrefoelas towards Isbyty Ifan (signed just after the s kink/chicane after turning right from Denbigh Moor, anyway, if you take the right at that junction up the top, it joins the road over Blaenau mentioned before. If foggy, it hangs there sometimes but often clears quite quickly if you go left, but that road is nice to do the length, either or both directions, maybe better towards the A4212 imo. You'll see what I mean if attempted when clear, just watch the first sign with a single arrow marking a left you can see in the distance, as when you are in the distance you might be carrying speed. It means LEFT! haha.

I was heading along the A5 from the A470 and turned right down there. I'm sure if it was clear it would be lovely, but I hated every single minute of being along there ha. All I could think was if I fell off it would be hours until someone found me.

I'm now back home. Less than six hours to get home which I'm pleased with, took me nine to get there (but did stop off a lot more, on the way back I purely stopped for fuel).

I had a great time. The views were amazing, the roads were stunning. I'm glad I went. Trying to think where to go next. I'm tempted to hop on the ferry and start at France.

Will add a few photos in a bit smile.

Will do! Thinking of going to France/Spain.

Had a bit of fun with someone on along the A40 on the way back, was good fun.

Right, photos time.

Taken just after filling up. It was a pain in the arse getting on and off to start with!

Can never remember the name of the village, but along the A350 towards Shaftsbury. Team I work with. Didn't want to be 167!

First photo taken in Wales, no idea where about this was, but lovely view. Only got better!

Brecon Beacons. Think the photo says it all.

70 miles to go! It felt like a lifetime.

View from the B&B. It was very basic, and annoyingly the WiFi didn't reach my room, but lovely place. And at only £30 a night (didn't have breakfast as wanted it out and about, otherwise would be £35) can't complain.

Day two. Up early to leave at 0800ish. (thats early for me by the way).

Didn't start too well, broke the door handle! Thankfully the owner was lovely about it.

The weather was crap. It was the real horrible drizzle that gets you soaked.

This was taken along the A5, near a lake. Thats all I know.

I tried to get all arty, but failed. But photo of my bike instead.

Selfie time!

Not sure where this was taken.

Taken along Horseshoe Pass. My favourite place. Stopped off for a fantastic breakfast along the way.

Not too sure where this was taken, but lovely road to ride along. Couldn't enjoy it too much as fuel light popped on and wasn't too sure where the next station was!

Didn't take any on day three, mainly because I wanted to get home sooner rather than later.
