If you can't lock it to something, use three disc locks. Grinding them would take too long & they're more likely to nick someone else's bike. But noone wants to spend money on security.

Which would be 60 quid. Cheaper than a st chain. Do all disc locks need grinding though? Or can their locks be busted in seconds?

The lock parts are actually quite hard to bust, nowhere to get leverage from what I can see.

Isn't London the most CCTV'd city in the world?! Can't they track them via CCTV?
Yes but we all know that CCTV is only used to issue 'compliance' fines to otherwise law-abiding citizens or make reality TV shows.

It does seem to me that if this is the same gang as on the various videos then they are making themselves very familiar and, hopefully it won't be long before someone catches them and deals out some proper medieval justice...

They vary. Some are quite skinny. IMO it's better to have different brands though if you have more than one, as each typically has a particular weak point.

One of the problems is different bikes can only accept certain disc locks due to the different style of discs. I've had some great disc locks that can't be used with all bikes.

I think you need ones that are properly solid. Look at this xena! What a load of crap.

This new one looks solid

I have to get a ten year old if not older bike as I leave it parked in Westminster. even though its locked I know the gits will try and lift it.
Thanks - shame I couldnt run or if they were closer I could have got to them, if I was on my bike I would have chased or followed but done what I could at the time, you never know the bike might have even been found if the police did turn up and look around the area.

A chap was killed and his father severely injured recently in London after they tried to stop bike thieves outside their house.

You did the right thing, no point in risking your life over possessions, let alone those which don't belong to you. Insurance and police exist so we don't all have to be "macho men", to quote Richard Pryor, "I'll take that knife and shove it up your ass..."

Of course fezspider is an exception smile

Just saying screw it the insurance will deal with it affects us all over time, and the Police are clearly failing as there wouldn't be such a spike in thefts if they had a handle on it.

I've got that xena one, the only good thing about it was the alarm was fking loud and I mean awesomely loud. However it would go off all the bding time outside in the wind or under a cover.

Preventative measures as have been discussed.

So these particular thieves appear to be well known across the internet and to the police but they can still carry on riding around London steeling bikes on a moped with no number plate. Why on earth haven't they been caught?

Nooo... I think you have done your civic duty. There is no point in getting in too far as you never know what these scum are carrying. They seem to thrive on stabbing and slashing with impunity.

Its just not worth it. If someone tries to take my bike I am going to stop them but if a knife gets pulled I'm letting them have the damn thing. The world is getting scarier.

Another in downham last night too - at least yours seems to stop for traffic lights/other traffic - the little st here didn't bother....

Another 2 last week in the same location too but different bikes, together buzzing/goading a queuing police car into chasing them...
