So I have £40k burning a hole in my pocket (give or take, depending on how much I sell my car for). I need useable rear seats for the incoming baby and something that's quick and sporty. Don't want any super saloon suggestions as I have one of those already smile

I'm struggling to think of a better all round car than the 997.2 S, are there any other inspired suggestions?

DB9 rear seats are worse than 911.

As above V8V doesn't have rear seats.

Maserati - lol.

Not sure a 997.2 is the best place for a new born in a rear facing baby seat, you might fit one in the front (and the Mrs in the back).

The M5 should be OK though.

Personally I'd get a quick 5 door hatchback for family duties and carrying foldable buggy etc and save the 911 for when you're on your own.

Now that's exactly the kind of crazy suggestion I was looking for! Time to do some more research... type

Tried a DB9, couldn't believe how useless the rear seats were, don't think you could fit any sort of baby seat in there.
Would love a V8V or R8 but the Mrs has vetoed any 2 seaters frown
Haven't driven a Maserati GT but on paper they look too lardy...

Are the rear seats in a GTR of any use?

Afraid you'll need £60k these days and that's not for a mint one. They're on the way up, as are most other used Ferraris. £40k will get a tatty Mondial.

Granturismo is worth considering but it's definitely a cruiser, not a sports car. Jag XKR?

Get a £1000 Fiesta that you don't mind covering in baby puke and then get a proper car with the change. Or go mad. Spend £2k on the Fiesta-shed.

The 997 is certainly the default choice for those in your shoes, but the only issue is the somewhat inert driving experience. If you find that too, then the Lotus Evora is the answer. I'd say it's worth at least driving an Evora S before committing to a 997.

Utterly beautiful in every single way, and I've wanted one since they were released, but the problem for the OP is twofold:

1) Servicing and parts costs are eye watering. Fine if you have a couple of grand a year to run it for 2k miles a year on Sundays and holidays, but using one as a daily could prove very expensive.

2) Ferrari depreciation per mile is quite shocking. I doubt you could buy a 20k mile example and then sell it easily with 50k on the clock 2 or 3 years later without taking an enormous hit.

I do like the Evora option, but could you really fit a baby seat back there...?

You can although not for a new born as far as i'm aware as the rear facing wouldn't fit

There is actually a fair bit of space back there so long as you are not tall and plenty of room for a group 1 car seat. (researched it all for my daughter when she was 2).

As above, not for a baby and in reality it doesn't exactly look great for forward facing either..

Sorry, my post was ambiguous. I've just edited it. I was referring to the 997 911.

It's fine so long as you go for an appropriate car seat - a normal pun of the mill won't be great but Recaro or similar fit fine - key is to purchase one with a straight back as it literally takes inches out of the depth.
