Discussion
We're having a discussion on how one should proceed on this roundabout when turning left. Some are of the opinion that you cross the solid white line into the bus lane and some think that the bus lane shouldn't be entered at all. I've attached a paint diagram as the google maps image isn't clear. Obviously the paint image is quite rough and not to scale but markings on the road are correct.

The markings are obscured in the Streetview - but look at the aerial pic, and the markings are in the main traffic lane. The line for the bus lane is solid all the way to the GW entering the r'a'b.https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@52.4383276,-1.49245...
Anybody who thinks that's anything but "Turn left from the main traffic lane" needs to revisit their HC, sharpish.
Looking at the sign at the start of the bus lane, there are no times of operation, so it's a 24/7 bus lane.
The solid thick white line is the border of the bus lane. You don't cross that white line.
The road marking arrows are a bit out as they imply you can cut across to the left lane, but you can't, though maybe the solid line has been extended recently.
Looks a stupid lay-out and probably causes more tailbacks and delays than not having the bus lane on that short section.

Interesting situation if you on your car in the right hand lane wish to turn left and a bus in the bus lane to your left wishes to go straight on...
I think you're giving the council planners far too much credit. They wouldn't have considered that someone might want to use their own car for transport purposes. WaferThinHam said:

As another poster has commented, what happens if a bus arrives at the roundabout and wants to go straight ahead and a car arrives and wants to turn left. Technically, the car was established on the roundabout before the bus?
The bus is bigger and special (these days), so even though it is empty and using a million times more fuel, it wins. What will happen is you'll dutifully stay out of the bus lane and then make your left turn at the end, only to be t-boned by an Audi A3 2.0 diesel being angrily driven by a ferocious photocopier salesman which has cut the corner by entering the bus lane where the arrows are. Because there are no witnesses it'll go 50/50.

And the bus will be going straight on as that is where the bus lane continues, not to the left.MitchT said:

No PHer would be caught out by that, as they'd be checking their n/s mirror. In the unlikely event they didn't notice, their rear mounted dashcam would provide evidence.KungFuPanda said:
