This morning i had a near miss on the A12, on the way into London, whilst riding the bike.
The traffic was alreay bumper to bumper, due to another incident earlier on, so i was filtering between lanes 2 and 3.

Whilst filtering a Smart Car pulled across from lane 2 to lane 3 wthout indication. I was able to stop in time, but i was angry, and so rode around to the passenger side of the car, when i told the drive to drop the window. I saw red and wanted to shout at the guy for being a SMIDSY.
On doing so i could then see and then smell that he was smoking a joint!

I would have probably had shouted at him to vent and the carried on to work, if he wasn't in the process of smoking one, but i felt compled to call the police. Did i do tghe right thing? I'm under the impression that his awareness was diminised to due smoking.

I told him that i what i was going to do, and becase the traffice was not mmoving, he coudln't drive away.
We pulled over to the hard shoulder and i grab a picture of him and his car/reg then called the police. The guy was begging me not to do this and was offering me money, so he could leave.
On speaking to the operator, i gave them his details and then said they would send a unit. After waiting for 45mins with this guy on the side of the road, no one turned up.
He left the scene and i then spoke to the operator again to find that the Police could be another 2 hours!

So whats the liklyhood that the police will actully follow this one up? Given that he "sobered" up whilst waiting for them. Can they still do anything? I'm guessing he's a lucky lad and gotten away with driving under the influence of drugs?

Of course the driver is a fking bell-end, but would you do this if you were in a car or is confronting other drivers absolutely fine if you're a cyclist? confused

You should have asked for "two's" and it might have calmed you down a bit.

What difference does it make what vehicle the OP was using?

It's funny, I'm a cyclist and I assumed he meant he was riding a motorbike.

Perhaps, I just find the whole "I was angry so went out of my way to demand he lower his window so I could abuse him" thing a bit odd.

In response to the drug thing I can't see how you'd ever prove it unless he's literally holding a bag of fking dope and posing for photos biggrin

Whilst I don't condone him taking drugs whilst driving, you come across as a bit odd. Did you enjoy the power you had over him or something?

I bet he had to endure a dull and repetitive lecture from you for every second of that waiting time too. How much time have you got on your hands to be this much of a vigilante?

Swap big fat spliff with a can of Special Brew, and what would you do? Just ignore it, as it's nothing to do with you?

Quite surprising, the A12 is quite heavily policed in the morning/evening. If you were filtering on your motorbike between lane 2/3 you were coming up to Brentwood ? Should have popped into the services, always a plod in there eating a Maccy D's

Did you go to the passenger side as you're well aware of the "Pass the dutchy to the left hand side" rules?

Is one can of SB going to put him over the limit?

If he'd been in a car, something serious could have happened, like scratched paintwork. Not like a bike where you're only going to get maimed or killed. Obviously the former would induce calls on PH for VBRJ and sausage hammering (or a combination of the two) whereas the latter is just some tt in lycra getting what he deserves.

Quite.
I had a similar experience whilst filtering - car erratically moving about. A blast of horn followed by the universal 'you are number 1' gesture made me feel better for a tenth of a second, then I was on my way. What's the point of even stopping for the morons?? There's never a copper around when you need one anyway, & you can't take the law into your own hands. Life's too short.

I'm very surprised he even pulled over to the hard shoulder for you let alone waited for the police to come for for 45 minutes!

Did you perform a citizens arrest and tie him up or something? I'd have told you to feck off if you insisted i stay and wait with you regardless of what you believe me to have done, i'd imagine most others would be the same.

Anyway, in regards to your situation i very much doubt anything will be done, unless you took a sample of what he had that could be sent for a full chemical analysis...and proved it was his...and proved he was smoking it...etc, etc.
