Evening ladies and gents!

Right I've had a NIP through the post for an offence which was on the 27/8. The funny thing is, I've received the 'NIP' dated 01/09/16 and Reminder NIP dated 29/09/16 today at the same time!

As far as I can remember, there was a stupid mobile camera van with no warning signs before hand or any camera markings to say etc. The speed limit is 50mph and I've done a sad '68' mph. Can I just get off with a safety awareness course, or is it 3 points and £100 fine? It's my first driving offence in 8years of driving, so I guess I'm not too bad. Also, if I've gone for the 3 points, how long do they usually last on my licence for? I am aware that the offence is most likely a SP50 or similar. I am not happy is an understatement as with no pre warning or anything whilst enjoying Britains finest roads, I am stung!

Right over to the PH comrades! 😂

4 years, and I think you only inform your insurers once you have been awarded your points.

Just so you and others know, the upper limit for speed awareness courses is speed limit, plus 10%, plus 9 mph.

So speed limit 30, SAC upper limit is 30+3+9 =42 mph
40............53
50............64
60............75
70............86

And you have to return the NIP with driver details within 42 days, and not have done an SAC in the past 3 years to be allowed to enjoy a speed awareness course.

Feel for you to ve honest mate, a lot on here won't sympathise, despite the fact most people exceed the speed limit at certain times for various reasons.

As for warning signs etc... I doubt there HAS to be any, I'm not sure tho. Best bet is to take it on chin.

Your premiums will bump for next 5 years. This is what I disagree with most about speeding, the punishment doesn't fit the crime.

I would like to see more dangerous driving convictions, exceeding the limit is not always dangerous.

Not that self righteous but c'mon - the A57 is notorious for covert policing

68mph in a 50!!!

I dont think its the camera which was "stupid" in this instance

From experience I understand South Yorkshire Police won't offer a speed awareness course as they don't run one.

I thought there was usually a clause saying you had to inform them straight away of any change in your circumstances. (If he gets points).

It is. It's not even an outstanding drivers' road, there are far better ones in the Peak District. I always thought the camera vans' locations were some of the best known in the country and OP, there are warning signs at each end of the Snake.

I have just had my first 3 points for 10 years for 36 in a 30 knew the camera was there just my mind and foot was elsewhere ( powerfully built director)work for myself in my van 50000 miles a year so law of averages I was going to get caught at some point and yes people are going to come on here and go on about one shouldnt speed but we are not all perfect and again was not offered speed awareness course as have done one previously within 3 years for again 36 in a 30 on average camera hit the first one too quick should have stopped off at the pub in the middle had several pints and then driven out the other side !!
What annoys me is you do the do the honest thing phone up your insurance company tell them you have an SP30 nice lady on the other end says "No worries thats fine nothing to pay " that was for my van phone the insurance on my GT86 and that will be another £85 please sir !!! robbing bds I wasnt even speeding in that one

I had to do one for 79mph on the M180 ! Humberside Police.

Maybe, maybe not.

No need to return a NIP (it's only a warning), but a written request for driver details under s.172 RTA 1988 must be returned within 28 days, not 42.

Amnika said:

Count for totting purposes for 3 years.
Must remain on licence for 4 years.
Declarable to insurers for 5 years.

All from date of offence.

They don't have to provide warning signs, but if they did put a warning sign out, they wouldn't have to bother putting the van there as well.

Depends on what's changed. If you get disqualified, you'd need to notify immediately. If you were handed 3 points, you'd likely be required to notify the insurers at renewal.

What and when you need to declare would be confirmed in the policy documents.

Thanks for all your responses gents. All feedback has been duly noted. I will have form sent off on Monday special delivery. Lesson learnt I suppose. Another lad that was with me, has been clocked doing 83 mph, so I feel slightly better.

Best regards and I hope you're all enjoying your weekend

Little sympathy deserved, and nothing to do with how often or not people break limits.

To get caught on Snake takes a level of numbness that is mind blowing. Really. It's been a notorious place for policing and cameras for decades.
