I have no objections to people with cams save for two things

1) Its to protect yourself not prosecute others, so the endless showing of slightly dodgy driving needs to stop. If there is an accident then the camera is invaluable to apportion blame.
The problem with that is the number of people wanting to see it on youtube is to high. Demand need supply. Not may cup of tea but there is a thread on here that is very big just of this kind of video.
Exactly! The problem (if there is one) is not those who do the filming and posting but those who do the watching. If there was no audience then it wouldn't take long before there was no posting.

2) No one in their right mind should attach a camera to their helmet. The camera should be attached to the bike in a place your head is unlikely to hit in the event of the accident
Regards point 1, I think you could argue that highlighting bad driving/riding is protecting yourself. Perhaps some of the people watching the YouTube vids might actually realise their own driving isn't great when they see the potential effects of un-signaled lane changes for example.

Regards point 2, I'm not sure I see the danger here, if a camera is on your helmet and hits something it's probably going to just get ripped off (the camera not the helmet). The other advantage of having it on your helmet is it is pointing where you are looking so if some lunatic is pulling alongside you giving you abuse you can get them on camera, if it's mounted on the bike you are just going to see a stretch of tarmac.

I'm not trying to pick a fight, just my two penneth.

That's already been debunked several times by the medical and skiing experts.

Well, to close this one off....

I reported to 101, details taken. Will pass it on.

Several days later, nothing. Phoned them up again, this time they asked me to email them video evidence. The email address they gave did not work.

Trawled the crap out of there site (Which kept crashing giving an IIS 2003 error, clearly running in a cupboard some whare), no other email addresses.

I did find an on line form to fill out... that was last week, nothing.

So, in conclusion. The coppers couldn't catch a cold. In fact, its worse than that. When everything is handed to them on a plate they ant even be arsed to sniff at it.

In my experience most coppers are decent humans. It's not so much that they don't want to help on a personal basis, but is largely a mix of lack of resources, topped off with ridiculous, arbitrary processes that prevent effective action.

Blame the Tories.

and their expertise in helmet design is what exactly, maybe the camera would be ripped off or the impact maybe direct on the camera that is attached to the helmet, why anyone would risk it is beyond me but its a free world so they can do whatever they want.

Must admit I had a Google around to try to find evidence that it had been debunked and failed to find anything. Got bored after about an hour.

Most of it seemed to be saying that it could weaken a helmet and result in the protection mechanism being degraded. Regardless doesn't seem sensible to me regardless of any supposed debunking.

Seeing as the police have been little help, you could go the social media route; post it online and tag the police.

I think that's a good point. Sometimes even driving gods like myself don't realize when we make mistakes.

Although I don't think it's happened since I passed my driving test. biggrin
