Lovely, an' all. Now look at the bit in brackets that says 79(tri)

79 - restricted to vehicles in conformity with the specifications stated in brackets on your licence
Don't see any references to that on the website

Try clicking the bit that says...
The page you linked to said:
Your entitlements may have additional restrictions. Check the restriction codes for your driving licence.

Mine says A - date from and to, then 79(3).
Can someone clarify this for me? My understanding is that this allows me to drive a trike of any capacity?

Hi all my mate passed his car test about a year ago, sent provisional off to dvla and full licence he received as well as his car entitlement it also has bikes included. He's never ridden anything more than a twist and go but is daft enough to buy a big bike without thinking it through.anyway would it really be as simple as him buying and insuring it?
I can't possibly imagine how daft your mate must be. Only been driving a year, never ridden anything bigger than a kiddies scooter, no licence or training. If he wants to ride a bike, he should get the training he needs.

Yep, exactly that.

It's a legacy thing with the European standardisation of driving licence categories - the UK car licence included trikes, other countries didn't. So, rather than say "Well, all trikes are cars now" across Europe, they took the opposite angle, and said "Well, trikes are bikes, but they're bikes you can ride. But not bikes with only two wheels..."

I have A 79(3) which I now understand to mean 79(3) Restricted to tricycles
All of the blurb in text to the left that talks about "motorcycle" must therefore mean Trike.
The confusing power to weight stuff is therefore meaningless.
I can still ride two wheeled AM mopeds even taking a pillion eek
For my 125cc Vespa I have to wear L plates and do the CBT every two years.

Hi can anyone help.. I had my full category (A) bike test which covered me for any size bike!!

Basically.. long story I got done for dangerous driving (my bad) was banned for 3.5 years had to do an extended test got the licence today in the post and on the back of the licence on the catagory A on the motorbike it's got 79.03 which I've read online is something to do with tricycles? What ever the hell that means! 🤔

Really my question here is do I have to resit my full bike test again? Driving instructor told me that I'd get all my licences back again so a bit confused here.. Would hate the thought of doing that all over again!

Any help appreciated thanks!

3.5 year ban? FFS what did you do?

Maybe the stabiliser idea is not a bad one! ?

That makes no sense. You’ve got your licence in your hand that has both those details.

I'll maybe have to give them a call or hopefully another member will know the answer!
What was the link you sent there was that to see if I had the bike on my licence?

OP you don’t need to put the two numbers after the gap following the 16 alpha-numeric code shown on line 5 of your licence.
Do you have your correct NI code in?
Did you leave a gap in your postcode?
Are you putting the same post code that shows on your licence?

Sure he's not got the 79 (3) against the A class license? Trike only if so. Personally think as above could find himself in very hot water if used without entitlement. Do the tests and earn it if he wants it. Rest of us had to.
This is usually the case. People don't bother looking at the numbers on the side though.
Misses had to send her licence off for photo change and it came back with a full A licence on it. She's never sat on a bike, never mind ridden one. I checked, it's definitely a full A licence and not trike only.
She isnt interested in motorbikes in any way shape or form but the DVLA do make mistakes and have in this case.

Have a look for the 79(3) on there.
