It obviously isn't. If someone wants a bike styled like this then it's VFM needs to be compared to other similar bikes. It's quite pointless saying that some other type of bike offers better value if it's of no interest to the person.

This would be like saying a Nissan GTR offers better value than a Caterham; you might well get more for your money but it's an utterly pointless statement if you want to buy a Caterham.

Value and 'style' arguments aside I just don't get the modern retro thing. I'm of an age that I prefer analogue to digital tech, but in this you have old dynamics but with complexities of ABS, traction control, throttle by wire, etc. You're quickly going to wish you had some more ground clearance (and power)....

If we indulge you in your baseless assertions for a bit, perhaps Triumph know this (their success would suggest they know quite a lot about their, quite specific, markets) but are thinking that will just get you to trade up to a more powerful model. Among the fellow Triumph owners I know there is a strong brand loyalty, much like the other iconic, non-Japanese motorcycle brands (although they too have their loyal fans, Gixxerists and the like) I don't often see this argument put forward anymore about Harley Davidsons, for example, but perhaps that's because it's old news and it's been done to death. The loyalty of the Harley boys and girls must still be the cause of much chagrin to the likes of Doctor Slackrectum, too, but there's no longer any mileage in bleating about it. Perhaps in 20 or 30 years Triumph knocking will peter out, too.

For that money you get quirky British built bike which is slightly st at everything, or for about £3,000 less you can walk into a Jap bike dealer and get something objectively superior in every way. It's just creating yet another class of sad desperate motorcyclists who like to play dress up at weekends isn't it? This time donning their "retro" Bell helmets and brown vintage leather jackets...
Pardon Mr Bloor for creating bikes that relieve BABs/hipsters/whatever of the financial burden of their cash, at least they aren't buying Harley Davidsons or whatever erzatz HD-a-likes Japan are churning out this year.
