I saw the chap who stole my car in the shop the village shop the other week. He wasn't prosecuted of course, did time for something else and is out now. I ended up talking to him, I asked if he was sorry for what he did, he said he didn't do it, but was sorry. A different kind of criminal of course.
But what do you do? I caught him at the time, chased him to his house and collared him, and for my trouble I was advised by the call handler if I touched him I'd be in real trouble. The police are pleasant but ultimately only there to try and persuade me from doing him harm as they don't want to arrest me. His word was as good as mine apparently.
As much as it boils my piss it is just a piece of equipment which is insured. A diamond grinder to the face is pretty permanent, and taking the keys is a bit foolhardy at the least, especially for someone else's property. A knife always trumps strength, no matter how hard you think you are, and they always carry one. You also may not have your contact details on display, but your face is. You may even be on film.
I would challenge someone stealing a bike, but you shouldn't take chances with prosecution or injury for someone else's insured possessions.
So, make sure you do not get caught and make very certain the little sts do not do it again. But what do you do? The moment you start excusing inaction, they win.
I have twice got stuck in with thieves here in Spain, the first the Police were really pleased that I had left him so terrified and injured that he was "too scared to go to hospital". The second tried to denounce me for a shovel in the face, they turned up to arrest me, but after putting my side and explaining how he attacked me first, they instead arrested him. I attended court the next day to identify him and he ended up getting deported back to africa as he couldn't pay the fines. Tragic.

This is not Spain. The moment you start excusing inaction, they win.

Personally I think they win when you choose to make them part of your life. The moment you start excusing inaction, they win.

Maybe in Sparta this is good advice, but this is the UK. With that attitude I'd almost certainly end up in prison, I'd certainly lose my livelihood (I need a clean record), and the twelve years of my life required to get here. With no one left to pay the mortgage, and no one to support my family during my hiatus in sing-sing it would be somewhat difficult. Especially when the criminals live a few doors down and I'm safely locked away, all to punish gob ste who will never learn, for a crime that wasn't personal, like almost all thieves he was an opportunist.
We'd all love to give the baddies a good shoeing, but I'm not taking excessive risks when I pay insurance companies to deal with this st.

I guess that's the dilemma. The problem is there seems to be NOTHING 'we' can do. Logically, it would seem that apparent 'low level' crime like this will simply increase to a point where there is no point in buying a half decent motorcycle, or anything else for that matter. I'm quite concerned that I would cause someone severe damage if I caught them thieving (ex forces & all that..), & I would end up in real trouble, as Prof describes. I reckon there must have been at least 4 onlookers there to two scumbags. Even with the tools, four onto two should have resulted in someone having their head sat on until plod arrived.
Having had a go at a knife-waving who broke into my ex's Skoda (classy thief ) I wouldn't hesitate to have another crack, and I'm nothing special... but neither are the scrotes.

At some point they are likely to pick the wrong persons bike and get beaten mercilessly. Having had a go at a knife-waving who broke into my ex's Skoda (classy thief ) I wouldn't hesitate to have another crack, and I'm nothing special... but neither are the scrotes.
Where are the stolen bikes ending up?
