Harry, are you still commuting by trike?

Having had my second major cycling accident while commuting in the last ten years (both non fault). I’m going to hang up my cleats. Spending last wed in HDU tends to focus the mind somewhat.

I had looked at these 5 years previously but ended up back cycling.

Are you still enjoying it?

I only need to get from Norbury to Kings Cross but parking/theft could be an issue.
Bad luck on the accident.

I commented above how good my MP3 500 was - unfortunately the engine seized due to probably oil pump failure (there was plenty of oil in it). Not impressed as it only had 10,000 miles and FSH. I now ride a Yamaha Xmax 300 which is more agile and fun but does require a bike license. Touch wood, not been nicked yet in 15 months of usage.

Not sure if I should admit this or hand back my licence...

I'm planning a Land's End to John O’Groats run for cancer research later in the year on a bike costing less than 600 quid, this coupled to my employer wanting me in central London 3 times a week from next month means ideally I need a sthorse to do both. The commute is 40 miles each way which I do on my Super Adventure and whilst this is fun once a week it's becoming a chore with all the 20mph limits.

So been looking at Facebook Market place for something 600 quid or less, bigger than 125cc and Ulez/congestion charge exempt. There is slim pickings at this end of the market even non runners/project bikes. Some really grotty examples which need loads of work or complete rebuilds.

My plan was for a sv650 or ern650 but nothing has come up within a sensible distance. Until this caught my eye...

400cc, ulez/congestion charge exempt, practical and most importantly interesting (OK, it's only interesting because it has 3 wheels).

The pig, needed a new fork assembly (which is a pain to find in the UK), tyres, brakes and a mot. I can spent money on the tyres and brakes so that's no bother with the cancer research challenge.

It's rough as aholes but got an strange charm. Forgot how strange riding a scooter is. The weight is all over the place and 3 wheels is an odd sensation. Handy storage as I'll be camping up in Scotland.

I've done the suspension work so it should pass an mot now and it will do for commuting. My plan is for it to be ratty as fk but mechanically sorted.

Anyone else run one of these? Does Sir Flashman still have his?

A pic of the SAS for balance biglaugh
