Nice new chain only 2 weeks old. I've lubed the st out of it, but somehow the fking road salt has found its way in. So: what's the best way of getting rid of surface rust? It looks absolutely horrid!

Lube it up and run it. It'll soon get dirt and grease over it or wear off as it circulates. Don't start cleaning your chain man, good grief.

Has the same thing happen, annoying

I gently and carefully used a brass brush on the outer plates. But be carful of the o rings. Or use a plastic brush. Bit of elbow grease too. Will help.

hehehehe Love it!
I suspect 308 is probably right though. A nice shiny new chain is something to behold - too bad the Great British winter is just soooooo st. Anyway, its a Z ring chain, & I hate fking salt!!!!!

If you want to clean the chain up go and get some liquid paraffin and a tooth brush

Beloved ACF 50 works well too although this time of year we used to run over the school bike chains with a rag dipped in old engine oil every night.

Having said that, biggest thing to help a bike overall is to hose it down with water to wash the bstard salt off! Don'y jet wash though for obvious reasons.

+1 for this. Just did mine after stupidly going out the first week of january and ended up with a chain that looks like a fox after contracting Hep C.

I stupidly put mine away after a wash and didn't touch it for a couple of months, when I checked it the other day the chain was covered in surface rust so I ran a wire brush over it and lubed it. Time will tell if I've damaged it I suppose.

Hopefully. Be a shame to have to replace it, it's only done 4.5k miles!
