1299 is not a good road bike. It has character though and looks sexy. I rather test ride that bike from time to time but not own it, at least not right now. My Japanese bikes (and Daytona) may be less "shouty" than 1299 but far more user-friendly, and I value that. They go fast enough and steer well enough to make riding very exciting, so I don't miss anything in that respect.

I find R1 visually not exciting, and that exhaust collector is so ugly. The welds on the swingarm look cheap, I can forgive Suzuki for that, because their bikes always look a bit rough, but R1M is second most expensive bike after 1299S! Plus both Honda and Aprilia did a much better job and RSV4RF costs almost 4K less than R1M where I am at.

I rode 2014 RSV4 Factory back to back with my 954RR and Aprilia surely impressed, reminded me of Daytona 675 in terms of handling, but I did not feel shortchanged at all back on my Honda. That's why I did not buy the Aprilia, decided to keep Daytona, but RSV4RF is an upgrade and I've been thinking hard about giving up Daytona+GSXR1000 K6 for an RF, but have extremely hard time deciding.

Ducati is huge compared to Aprilia, I cannot imagine Ducati having spare parts supply problem.
Well this probably won't help your decision much but the RSV4 is my favourite bike that I've owned, until I got one though the 954 was, and it still is a close second!, where the Aprilia starts to come undone is servicing and parts supply, if you can live with that though, they truly are amazing bikes.

That's beautiful, I like how smooth the transition from the seat to the end is with that little back seat cover. Also it's great how nicely the fairing is done at the bottom next to rear wheel, though a bit too short, I am sucker for fairings and I like how new Fireblade looks in that respect, stretched all the way back to the rear wheel, just like my 954RR and also K6. The way current R1 and latest S1000RR look is just not appealing to me, S1000RR, my lord, lots of ugly discolored welds and pipes sticking everywhere. yuck

Blue = 2017 GSXR
Red = 2016 R1
Green = 2016 ZX-10

All as standard and same rear tyre.

Safe to say, I want the new GSXR-1000 right now smile
That's Paul Currans dyno isn't it? 😍 Seriously awesome torque curve, that's an awesome bit of engineering from a crate/customer bike.

I know quite a few racers with orders for the new GSXR now.

Back to the thread, IMHO 99+% of new Superbike sales are to people with a psychological need for a potent status symbol, to compensate for some other inadequacy in their life (until I decide to upgrade from my K5 or get it some company).

Just glad to see Suzuki are back, not just in the prototype class but club level & above racing.

Please folks, let's not compare WSB bikes, riders, tyres, lap times etc to ourselves though, other than in the pub.

pleased to see MD on one, for the roads.

Think I'll step away now.

What a coup for Suzuki!

They have just scooped the surliest and arguably one of the fastest road racers out there. I am not a big M Dunlop fan to be honest but its undeniable that he will take no prisoners in setting up this bike, getting it prepared and assaulting the TT.

It would be quite something if they go and win first time out with this bike. Awesome and I am happy for Suzuki.

In BSB Suzuki signing a WSB champion and all around good guy Guintoli and having the young gun in the form of Mackenzie bodes very well. I hope they can take it to Ducati and Kawasaki.

Also in MotoGP they had Innone topping timesheets on one of the test days and although testing means little it shows a glimmer of potential winning form for the resurging Suzuki MotoGP effort.

well done Suzuki. Now just make sure you capitalise on any wins better than Kawasaki have done.

I think I quoted where I pinched it from a few posts later, I'm going to assume you're right.

I'll be another sticking with my K5 till I can see how well the new one does... oh, and afford one! smile

As in the post above this, it's about time Suzuki got their act together and it looks like it's all happening. I've picked a good year for my first TT thumbup

Phwoooaaar, this is going to be good. He did bring the BMW to the TT and did brilliantly on it, the R1 was a bit of a mistake though so he needs to make sure he can get on with this one. Never understand why BMW dropped him but given the success they've had since switching support to TAS & Hutchinson, they probably aren't too bothered. He is a character and talent though. I love watching him ride the big Suzuki XR69 at the Classic: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cQ3bObaqOgU . Who says old bikes don't go fast?

In depth review in Performance Bikes magazine just out.

They like it.The entire issue looks good. They have a section on Hawk Racing and their experience of getting it set up as a race bike compared to their previous S1000RR. Sounds really good for Suzuki racing prospects.

10/10 in Bike too. Seems it's the real deal.

Fair play and about time too. Looks like it could be a return to glory days for Suzuki?
