Yesterday Stanstead Airport was briefly closed by eight protesters who "surrounded" a deportation flight. The charter plane was due to take failed asylum seekers back to Nigeria and Ghana.
Susan James from 'Plane Stupid' said: "In the wake of the Brexit vote, this government is more keen than ever to be seen to be 'tough' on immigration."

Hopefully they'll get a healthy fine and be told not to do it again.

If only Susan had used the word "illegal" in front of immigration as well as earlier in her diatribe. Dozy bint.

I thought plane stupid were against airport/runway expansion?? confused WTF are they getting involved with deportation/immigration?? Or perhaps I am thinking its all part of rent-a-mob & they got their paperwork mixed up.... I dare say there is little sympathy for them.

They do sound a little bit open-toed-sandal.

Still, at least we can take comfort from the good work of airport security. Eight people running around airside must be more tricky to detect and stop than 100ml of shampoo.

Why do people repeatedly misspell "Stansted"?

It's a very common mistake. In fact, I would suggest that most postings on PH that feature the word "Stansted" (when referring to the airport) have used the incorrect spelling.

I'm just curious as to why this is so.

Last night I had the joy of a scenic trip to Birmingham airport and a thoroughly enjoyable hour and a half on the tarmac before going back to Stansted. 3.5 hours sleep today so thanks very much for that Plane Stupid. If the government want to reduce the load on the courts I suggest setting up a pillory for these people next to the main entrance of whatever airport they have disrupted.

So - a week after a nut-case went on a Jihadi rampage in Westminster these clowns managed to penetrate a high-security cordon and get airside next to a plane on the tarmac.

Without getting challenged, shot or apprehended.

I wonder if lessons will be learned,

Airports are and always will be vulnerable. There's not much that can be done beyond what is done already.

Well, as long as little old ladies get their shoes x-rayed I won't worry about anyone strapping an explosive device to the fuselage

An update to this case.

“Fifteen protesters who locked themselves around a deportation plane at Stansted Airport have been convicted of an aviation offence.
The jet had been chartered by the Home Office to take people from UK detention centres to Africa on 28 March 2017.
A jury heard the so-called Stansted 15, who cut through a perimeter fence, had "placed the safety of the airport in a likelihood of danger".
The group will be sentenced at Chelmsford Crown Court a later date.”

Someone has to speak for all those minorities, and ensure they all think and act in the correct way
