Over the years I've worn stadium, Kangol, AGV, Shoie, Bell and Arai.

I have a Bell MX5 Carbon, another Bell that looks like the MX5 but isn't Carbon, an Arai RX7 and 3 Arai Excess ( I think that's what they're called), 2 Black and 1 White.

The Carbon Bell was £330 with a Black Visor the Arais were £240 each with a black visor.

I can't get on with Shoes for some reason.
It's because you only have one foot.

I thought the same thing myself!
Me too, I think my typical 'new' bike budget is close to some peoples helmet budget.

(ps, I'm on my third helmet since 1979, and one of these was second hand)

And because it's PH everyone has been recommending a £600 Shoei you can't even get on sale.

Have had both Arai and Shoei at similar price point.

Arai feels cheap in comparison, visor system is fiddly and crap. You always feel you're breaking it when you swap a visor over. My front forehead vents fell off, and the lever at the back stopped opening the rear vents and went all floppy.

Shoei has been pretty bullet proof to be honest.

Same with the Arai RX7. I have worn RX7 variants for years now, on my 3rd, a Corsair and all have been the same fit.

I tried one of the new models last year and couldn't even get the same size on my head, significantly smaller than previous models - at least in the opening...

Just made me smile, not having a dig at the OP for asking the question.

If its relevant for him then have at it!

Sorry for the late reply, to answer the £600 question. Well I wouldn't normally spend that much on a helmet, £300 tops maybe. But it's my birthday next week and the only thing I really need is a helmet so may aswell put all the money towards a shiny helmet.

Plus the only one I've liked a lot upto yet was that Arai. I just wanted to make sure I've considered all my options so I don't make a mistake.

The trouble with helmets is the fact most shops don't stock those high end helmets. But I'm going to try and find the X-lite carbon and the shoei spirit 3 to compare fit etc.

Some good suggestions so I really appreciate it. I'd be happy to spend £300 if the helmet floats my boat.

Really. It goes: Schuberth, Arai, HJC then may be Shoei
You're only confirming what I said. No HJC stands up to a competitor from either of the other brands you mentioned. As for Schuberth's they're not as great as many people make out. We have more issues with Schuberths than with Arai's and Shoei's put together.

As for the OP I'd be looking at the X-Spirit 3 mainly or an RX7V or an AGV Corsa R if the Shoei didn't fit.

I've just got a an AGV Corsa R, I'd definitely recommend it, come from an K3-sv so it's a massive jump up in quality

Been to a couple of big bike shops and nobody stock the X-lite or shoei. Loads of NXR models but I'm not a fan. Do I risk buying a £600 helmet online...

£600 !!! Gulp!

I'm still using my battered Arai, about £350, from a few years back. I know, I should get a new one.

Have a much newer Roof flip up (More apt on my scooter) which was £350.

I bought a Simpson for £150 and everyone thought I was crazy but this was back in 1982 biggrin

My current helmets (in order of preference)

AGV Corsa
Shoei GT Air
Schuberth S1 Pro
Shark Speed R
Shoei Multitech
Arai Tour-X 4

AGV Corsa
+ Is light, good vision, easy visor swap, really comfortable (tear off visor if needed), looks great.
- Ventilation is what I'd personally describe as OK, but that's about the only weak point at all.

Do online shops in the UK not have good return policies?

When I got my X-lite X661 (I can't remember who I ordered it from, maybe the Sportsbikeshop.com) I was sent the matte finish model. I'm sure that I ticked the gloss finish box when I ordered it. Anyway, it went back without fuss and I was sent the right model a day or two later.

It came with the pinlock kit in the box.

I'll hopefully put some proper miles in with it on this year. It's superbly comfortable, well made and pretty quiet. The drop down sunvisor is class too. Between that, the double D ring fastener, pinlock visors and useful air vents, I couldn't really ask for more.

Just recently i treated myself to a X-Spirit II.

Just got back from my first ride with it, I only really bought it as it was cheap and i fancied a Marquez replica, I can't believe just how much different it is to my NXR, firstly it's pretty noisy, but there is zero buffeting and you really don't feel any wind at all, also i find it more comfy than the NXR. Also it's heavier than the NXR but it actually feels lighter.

Well chuffed with it biggrin
