Are Triumph not British then?
I'm sure they are - but as a non-biker, the only brand that comes to mind was Norton. I think I even knew Norton Commander / commando deep in my brain. As a pinnacle British bike. And that's why the story just shocked me. A brand even I know about trashed.

Triumph are a great British brand, rescued from extinction by housebuilder John Bloor many years ago.And that's why the story just shocked me. A brand even I know about trashed.
Unfortunately many of the bikes are now made in factories abroad,
There are several smaller English bike manufacturers such as CCM in Bolton.
Norton have been bought out and are still trading. https://nortonmotorcycles.com/
I remember seeing the Norton stand at the NEC bike show years back when they had a vertical CNC running at wondering how they could possibly make any profit on the bikes at the price they were selling them at.
Also, knowing what a bunch of robbing bds the NEC are I did wonder how much that stand was costing them, probably somewhere north of £100k
