It's a Zodiac. Zodiacs had 4 headlamps and Zephyrs just the 2 nerd Same as the previous model, so in Z-cars they were mostly Zephyrs.

Yup, that was my dad - been dead for 25 years now but fond memories. At that time I guess he'd have had a CD175 for commuting. 2 years on when I had my Z900 he'd 'upgraded' to a Z400. My bikes were always bigger than his wink, but he did always tell me of the 'big Indians' he'd come across in the war and how he'd really have liked one...so I guess that planted a seed.
I right, my Uncle had a Zodiac then, I remember the 4 headlights.

My Father also had motorcycles before and after I was born, he was a Honda man though where as I am Yamaha. He died 16 years ago.

Great photo as I've said, photo's like that remind me of my childhood.
Me too, great riding times. My father had the Mk1 Zodiac with column change and a great front bench seat.

Happy days

EDIT:
It's the Alton Barnes White Horse, which was created in 1812.

Love wandering about up there, one of the local "high points" (literally). It's also a road on my regular "bimbling about" circuit... also on a Triumph scrambler, just slightly older.

Got my (CRF450RL) tool kit sorted from the other thread. It has everything I need for minor fixes, plus I'll have a few lighter things in a back pack (tow strap, first aid kit, saw, fuses etc. I decided in the end that I won't carry stuff to take the wheels off, I'll just use zip ties to get me to somewhere I can call the AA. hehe I'm sh!t at getting tyres on and off anyway, even in the garage, let alone in the forest. So this is just for daily rides, not multi-day trips.

It all fits nicely in here, and isn't too heavy

I'm probably starting to bore people with me raving on about them. But they're probably the most fun I've had on road bikes in years. Yes, they're st slow, but you feel like you're riding the bike not the bike riding you. Light as fk at 150kg, brakes, suspension and ride is all great for the money. You have to pin them everywhere though, keep the momentum up constantly and change gear all day, but I love 600s for that reason so once the q/s is activated and rev warning limiter is taken off at its first service it'll be much more fun. To be honest though, the bike doesn't suit my o/h, she doesn't like redlining hers, she'd been better off getting a CBR 650R or something similar as a first bike, because you really have to thrash them to get the best out of them. But I actually enjoyed going out with her this time as when I was on a 600 or litre you've fked off and out of range of the intercom in no time, or you're physically crippled from just bimbling along on a sports bike.

One thing I did noticed at the weekend was a few bikers being dicks around them though. The o/h just passed her test and isn't very confident, she's still learning but a few bikes were riding up her arse or doing st overtakes forcing her to move over. I experienced it myself, they get a bit of a shock when you don't make way for them and realise you probably aren't on an A2 licence. I was pretty good at getting in the way as I was lapped when I raced so it's not a problem for me, but I genuinely think they're be a lot less st riders out there if they had one of these in their garage.

I think some of the biking community have a slightly retarded view of small bikes, its something I noticed when I had the 401."Get out of the way little bike there's a proper bike coming through"
Pics look like "Callander" ? The A84 to The Green Welly does seem to attract more than its fair share of dafties on a weekend as well

There was a fair bit of lunacy on the roads at the weekend. Last weekend I had the Hurricane at the bike show; this weekend a wee run and a meet with some other triples owners (see, it's not a garage queen!). Sitting having lunch at the Mannerston Cafe (beside the Rouken Glen garden centre) watching/hearing some some bikes go past at absolutely crazy speeds. And not just single rider fast, but wee groups jostling for position on full throttle. It's on the A904 between South Queensferry and Linlithgow...but on that part there's almost a continual stream of cars trying to pull out of and into the garden centre (often at the last minute!)...and many I'd categorise as doddery old farts (although they're probably younger then me!). A time and a place and all that... If you want to run full throttle through each gear than maybe not a bit of road with blind junctions into/out of places where granny and grandad go for a day out.

Edited - it is a photo thread, so here was the Hurricane. Probably should have picked a better backdrop than the cafe car park. But it was running well and sounding glorious.

Yup it was, there was s just pulling up and riding along side my o/h when we entered the town that's a 20mph. Looking to overtake despite a car wanting to turn right at the next junction. Weaving about like it was the streets of fking Calcutta no Callander.

I used to ride/drive that way to work on the odd occasion, horrendous section of road, scares me to fk any Garden centre opening, especially this one.

It does feel like its got more go, maybe a little smoother but it is a fair bit lighter than my old Dark Horse and I last rode a 111 over 3 years ago and I'm still running it in

Only single sider I’ve owned was a 916 many moons ago, and the dealer did all the servicing. What’s the VFR like to work on, easier than with a standard rear swingarm?

Nice bike though, and something I considered before buying my CBR1000F. The thing about this era Hondas is the build quality. My CBR looks a nightmare to work on with the enclosed fairing..but it is absolutely the easiest of my bikes!

It seems so far to be relatively easy to work on, the end can has to be removed to get the rear wheel out.
If the standard 170 back tyre was on, not a 180 it may come out without exhaust move.
I shall be removing bits of bodywork today to check coolant.
As soon as the footrests arrive I can have a spin on it and see if I can ride it without hip/knee agony...

Wrap some electrical and duct tape round that socket extension, good to have some with you for those “get you home” repairs.

If you didn't do it this time, next time you get that involved it's worth pulling the hub out to clean it all. Otherwise dirt and stuff gets in there and makes it harder and harder to adjust the chain. By the time it gets difficult it's a hassle of a job so better to do it periodically.

I assume it's got an aftermarket exhaust? Mine had the standard and it had a hinged joint in it so you could remove the wheel by swinging the exhaust out of the way. Quite convenient, but would have looked better if they'd put the exhaust on the other side...
