Well, got the bike back today (was ready yesterday!). Can't believe how quickly they turned it around. Really nice Brazilian guy who had a literal queue of bikes waiting for servicing. Others round here wanted me to wait 3 weeks minimum!

Cost me £240 Inc ALL exhaust gaskets, VAT and Labour which i think was very good for such a tt of a job.

He commented on how good condition it was in. Must admit I've missed the sound after riding the CBF500 since December. Out of this world good with the Remus Hexacone.

I've got the Remus on mine and it sounds great i was offered a brand new Scorpion Serket never used for a decent price. I tried it but nowhere near as good as the Remus.

I'm currently in Adenau on mine.

Friday- Poperinge, Ypres, Sanctuary Wood, Bruges and Sint Niklaas
Saturday- Nijmegen and Arnhem
Sunday- Overloon, Nurburgring and Adenau

Lane splitting around Ghent at rush hour in sheet rain was "interesting". The wind through Holland and Germany today was genuinely frightening, 270kg of VFR blown around like a rag doll. Also got flashed at indicated 86kph (roughly 83 real) in a 70 zone, albeit on a front facing camera only...... Really quite disappointed with myself in that (thought it was higher).

Sketchy conditions and you have a low screen, too! Where are you staying overnight?

Picked a spare set of luggage up for mine this weekend.
There's a repair to a pannier hinge but you really need to look for it.
Need to get a lock for the top box any idea on the best place to get one?
Plan to use the top box on my GEN 5 so will need a lock.

One of the hooks on one of my original panniers was snapped after my mate ran into me with his pannier. This meant I had to use a cable tie through the hole this has worked fine for thousands of miles. My plan is to swap the lid to the back bit so I don't need the tie.

Lucky you. We rode through Luxembourg, from Germany to France last summer and the roads were excellent. Hope the weather is kind to you.

Today was much better weather wise, next to no wind. Have to say yesterday really knocked the confidence out of me, I was genuinely concerned for my life through most of the afternoon. Max I could manage was about 45mph on average otherwise I was being forced into the other lane it was so strong.

I did find that I'm not dropping my left hip enough to allow me round corners at good speed so will have to work on that. I gave it a good go but with no tc, 170hp and 2°C it wasn't exactly confidence inspiring until around midday today. I filled up with 102 fuel near the ring last night - didn't make a blind bit of difference 🤣. Fuel is VASTLY cheaper in Germany vs Holland! Roads in Luxembourg were equally stunning as Germany. Went through Wiltz and Esch du Soir to Pommerloch to Bastogne.

Bastogne is FULL of Americans everywhere you look. The foxholes were very interesting. Funny how the roads turn to ste the moment you cross the border from Lux!

Excellent well done and congratulations on your new purchase.

I am on my second one as well and did 36,000 miles on the first one and now over 44,000 on the second one. I'm thinking about replacing the second one with a third one to get low mileage again because these bikes are great and they are not making them anymore of course.

VFR 1200s are fantastic value for money I've seen 2010 bikes as low as 3K now which is an amazing deal.

Tell us more about your new purchase and surely you will be posting some pictures here in due course?

A picture from a few days ago.

Back to blighty on mine today. Bike didn't miss a beat in the 1010 miles door to door. I did have to fiddle with the suspension and suspect I need to do a bit more as I think I need some more rebound. Was effortless crusiing along the faster roads and acquitted itself well on the smaller ones. I can't say I'm doing so well though as I'm getting quite a lot of back pain below my shoulder blade area in the centre of my spine. The lack of cc isn't helping my hand either. I'm going to have to swap before another trip of this length.

As concerned as I was re the loud exhaust the only people to cause me problems were the total James Hunts at UK Customs who pulled apart every bit of luggage and asked every question imaginable!

Thanks for everyone’s contributions, what a delight to host so many fellow owners on here. They really are capable bikes, I love mine.

9090, that’s a great shot. Where’s your hard luggage?

Also, what do you mean by ‘cc’?

I can’t believe that you were stopped by customs!

No hard luggage with mine. That's a £9.99 Q Bag from Sportsbikeshop I got about 18 months ago. 100% waterproof so far! Held on with two straps and two rok straps. Was a bit of a pain strapping it on but works well.

Cruise control sorry. I had a boxers fracture a few years ago so it can cause some pain.

Yep, I've been all over Inc North Africa and the only place where they're consistently wkers is in the UK. He said "Are you OK, you look very angry" after questioning me for 25 minutes. "Why do you think? I've rushed to get here on time and now need to put up with this nonsense!". Even wanted to see the email confirmation of my OUTBOUND trip and what bloody museums I'd been to on what dates! Genuinely made me extremely angry. I do admit to swearing afterwards and calling him a jobsworth- which he was. The French and Germans get a lot of shtick but they were lovely.

I see. Good work with the £9.99 bag!

With respect to cc, I’ve used a throttle grip in the past which has worked well. I keep forgetting to use it nowadays, despite being under the saddle!

There’s also another system which I’ve seen advertised that riders seem pleased with. I’ll try and locate the details.

Interested to know more about your trip to N Africa.

Thanks for those. Yeah I'm always a bit wary of the mechanical locks tbh. Don't quite trust them.

Aha, it was a trip I did years ago across Egypt, Jordan and possibly somewhere else. Big cruise liner with excursions.

Almost forgot, I fitted a fender extender before I went but it kept catching on the tyres. Had to take a grinder to it to cut it down a bit. Don't think I've ever had one that worked.

That is interesting do you mean a fender extender on the front mudguard to stop crap being thrown up onto the radiator? I have one of those fitted and it works very well but I'm wondering how it could possibly catch against the tyre?

My previous hugger on the rear wheel used to be very close to the tyre. In fact so close that it worried me and I bought a different model and changed it.

Exactly that, yes. I've never had any luck with them on any bike tbh. I've fitted them as per the instructions but they always end up rubbing. I had to cut off a good inch from it in order to stop it scraping. Even with it chopped off it does however seemed to have helped avoid the majority of the crap getting onto it.

Here’s the other CC unit that I’ve come across which looks quite good, to me.
