Silverstone has never excited me as a venue. I’ve been a couple of times but no real want to go back, it’s a proper pipe dream but I’d love Brands Hatch to invest in the circuit so they could host GP’s again.

I do see your point, but the investment required to make Brands safe enough and compliant with the regulations would be almost impossible, sadly I do think the ony place it could ever be again is Donington, a far better venue but with the inherent logistics problems due to the road in and out being single carriageway

I would never even consider going to Silverstone to watch the GP. Last year we travelled to Malaysia to watch it ( we live in the UK by the way ).
And this year will be San Marino.
I’m not prepared to pay the ludicrous prices the UK charges us for everything, just ripping us a new ahole at every opportunity. Not only for the tickets , but also the parking , the accommodation, the food and the overall piss poor quality of it all.

Brands is getting tight on runoff for BSB never mind MotoGP speeds. To do the needful for MotoGP would cost a fortune, and the layout is another Sachsenring that won't promote great racing.

Donington is the same bar the runoff issues. Thruxton though...

Yeah right, might aswell throw Cadwell in too, it should not be in the calendar at all so dangerous is it! But I grew up watching racing there so fine.

Thruxton is perhaps the best venue for racing in the UK I think.

I think Snetterton could pull it off, but there is no way you could get people going there! Plus it is a dull, place, just like the place that holds it now!!

Seriously thought most of this is grading and licences and the costs needed to upgrade make it impossible, Palmer certainly would not spend that sort of money. Not sure if the requirements for SBK and GP are the same but in that vein the only viable other venue is Donington

He was doing a lot of testing for the Ducati MotoE bike so it won't be all new to him either and he can have some fun.
His ride has been confirmed:

I went to silverstone this past season and tbh I wouldn’t go again for the simple reason that I ended up not knowing who won as where I was sitting there was minimal screen and poor if any comms so as a viewing experience it’s better on the tv
If only there was other places to sit where you can see the screens, or the finish line itself. And maybe they could have a circuit radio station with the commentary on and readily available earpiece radios so you can listen..
oh, hang on..biglaugh

I did 4 moto GPs last year. Silverstone in the camper van at golf club, with DOC paddock tickets, Assen, drove and stayed in hotel, Le Mans in the campervan, (stayed offsite up the road as did not want van burned!), and Catalunya, flew, stayed in Barcelona.

Silverstone was the cheapest, all in, 3 of us, just under £1100, 5 nights camping, DO Champions was about £220 of that. We always do the same, fan stand (for at least race day, all locations a bit different). Most pricey was Barcelona, travel and hotels very pricey, all in about £2700 for 5 night trip.
There's good and bad in them all, people moan about silverstone parking and whilst we were in golf club, we had freinds come each day and park and it is right by the main gate / abbey gate, so very close and well organised. Barcelona on the other had was utterly bonkers, we had a rental car, and never parked even vaguly in the same place each day! It was just random where they sent us, and resultant massive walks to get to our stand on some day, (like a fair few miles). But the traffic in and out was insane...after the race, we waited to end of the whole event as GP race ended by about 3pm (even delayed after Pecco's crash), and even waiting til 4 15 to leave, we were over 4 hours getting out of our car park...basically, all the marchalls had just went home, so no one knew even which way to leave the fields...! In the end people were DMing the circuit on twitter and finally some police turned up to help vacate! Sow whilst parking is "free" it comes at a price.

Assen too, first day, Friday, parked right at the expo, walked straight in, our stand right there! Perfect. But then they charge you to use the loos! Second day, super hot as was day 1, and we dumped the proper shoes, got out sandals and flip flops on, and WTF....the parking took us past the Expo, and off into some fields in the middle of nowhere.miles and miles in the car...That day we walked from car park to the Gert Wilbers chicane and got a roving seat in the grandstand as could not face walking further to our stand at end of start straight, and by the time we got back to the car, we had walked over 17km each! Utterly insane! Again, "free parking" but carrying all our gear in the heat, just too much. Third day, left stupid early, arrived earlier and again they tried to send us to the middle of nowhere. We just left the car on the side of one of these grass tracks as they were clearly filling up the furthest car parks first, and people stiffed the day before were not having it. Still not great, but kept walking down to about 12km that day! Greta trip and great to see Jake win, nice beer too.

Le Mans is just insane. we only got in our actual seats on the saturday, sunday the stand had just been overun by regular punters with normal tickets, and security gave up. Still a great trip, but the antics in and around the circuit are utterly crazy, we had ridden in on motorbikes we keep in the camper, and i had to go and check on them 3 times a day as parking was on the campsites and bikes were being thrown onto bonfires by the drunk loons there to just go mental, bascially. Parking is free though, but next time will find somewhere to stay near the train and tram and use that! Traffic in and out, crazy, but on the bikes we just rode on the pavements passed the cops, who are pretty good eggs! Similarly, the locals and even no so locals are mad for motorbikes, all the villages and towns up to about 30 miles away where we stayed had people all out in their gardens and streets encouraging the visiting bikers to give it a big rev! We even stopped to let some kids rev the bikes up!
A real experience, cost was about £1440 all in, including fuel, ferry out, tunnel back, all tolls etc. Camping is proper cheap in the area, so dont risk the onsite campsite that is like a Mad Max set.

Silverstone is not as bad as some doomsayer make out. The entertainment is consistently best I have been too, and been to many other Mot GP including Austria, Portimao, Jerez, Valencia and Misano. Last year was horrible weather, but still the Kaiser Chiefs on saturday night were spot on! I would say i preferred it when it used the international paddock not the F1 paddock as was the case this year, but it's not changing back, media luvvies like the Wing too much!

BTW, we did Austria in 2022 as well as Lemans, GB and Jerez. Really enjoyed red Bull Ring, but it is a long way and not easy to get to, plus parking is a bit pot luck. We drove in car, saw the camping area and were glad to be in a hotel! Not quite as wild as Le Mans, but not far off tbf. Walking to go in, we were amused at the lap dancing tents full of pissed up punters at 715am! biglaugh

Silverstone's in an awkward position, as Dorna charge the circuits a small fortune (I believe, something like Eu6m) to host the GP races.
Unlike many other countries, they don't' get subsidising from the government as the UKGov/Local Gov just don't appear to welcome to the tourism and economic benefit of bringing what could be several hundred thousand people to the area
Subsequently, Silverstone ticket (and everything else) prices are high in order to pay Dorna

I agree though, it's not a great circuit to spectate at, but an amazing circuit to ride on the full GP layout

Misano is so much better organised than the sounds of Barcelona and Le Mans! Lots of directions, decent parking plod direct you to, which is secure and ten euros. I've heard in Barcelona people waiting four hours to get the train back to the city.

Track invasion to see the podium was all very gentle and organised. My wife was in two minds until we saw a couple with a buggy and a pram on the racing line being helped to the front by the stewards. Will definitely consider these.

Anyone been to Portimao?

We went to Misano in (I think) 2010 and stayed in Rimini for the weekend.

Caught the train from Rimini to Misano about 8am on the Sunday morning and I think we were the only ones on it. Thought we were getting there ahead of everyone but, not on your nelly. There was barely a patch of grass to be found anywhere.

Temperatures were high 30's and after the end of racing, we caught an absolutely packed train back to Rimini. I did feel sorry for any regular users on the train. Let's just say there was a bit more than a slightly sweaty whiff!

Misano is 100% better than Silverstone for a MotoGP weekend!

Top tip if going on your bike... the people at the side of the road shouting about parking are usually the owners of the houses right next to the track and they put all the bikes in their driveways/gardens and keep helmets/jackets/bags etc as well.. worth the €10 and safer than trying to park at the actual circuit.

Some of them even made a pretty decent food spread for a party after the race too...

For me Silverstone on the Friday is a bargain, park next to the entrance, no traffic, £20 to get in all the grandstands are free, no queues for food/toilets/shops, rider interviews on the stage nice and relaxed, a really good day out.

New Gresini livery for the Dorna love child pairing. Weirdly no Red Bull colours on the bike whatsoever. S they quit Honda and then oddly don't follow to Gresini!

I was really hoping they might switch the livery up a bit. Marc's testing bike looked awesome.

My thoughts exactly!

I’m just glad 2024 is looking like a good year after the start of 2023 left me a little cold.

Red Bull have gone to Gas Gas from HRC.

https://www.crash.net/motogp/news/1043227/1/red-bu...

I guess the difference is they are only personal sponsors of the Marquez brothers.

The big unveiling was a complete anti climax other than seeing MM in different leathers.

I've been reading about Honda and Repsol, Honda rumoured to be be going more corporate Honda colours and small Repsol, Repsol not happy about it. But it's their last year with HRC so I have no doubt if Marquez has a good year with Ducati they will follow wherever he is in 2025.
