Quick shifters and blippers are amazing. Took some getting used to not letting off the throttle on up shifts and not blipping on the way down.

Wouldn't be without one now.

This was going back a few years, about 2018 iirc

Wasn't there a Kawasaki road bike that had neutral at the bottom back in the 70's, KH750 springs to mind?
That was a Kawasaki (stupid) thing until the Z1 IIRC.

There was a reason why Velocette designed the first positive-stop footchange with neutral between 1 and 2. smile
Interesting stuff. Fortnine Ryan did a video on Kawasaki's positive neutral.

Pretty much all bikes had the same setup in hand change too, with neutral between 1st and 2nd. Sturmey Archer boxes don't have a gate on the hand change but most others did, which I find more difficult but I assume that was to stop you going through two gears even with your hand.

Scott's two speed solution is an interesting one, from what I can see it's pretty much a DSG system as each gear has its own clutch operated by foot. They were using that in the 1910s with foot change.

Yamaha Fizzy's had neutral at the top too from memory?!

The more I dig into this on the 1290 it seems to be a "missed shift" with the QS between 5th and 6th, it then engages and the box goes boom.....
I suspect user error, a big V twin needs a longer time to change gears, some people don't know how to use them. They are not a bimbling bike, you need to be a little more positive, or perhaps aggressive with them to make sure there's enough force to slot the gear home. They don't take any prisoners, onwards and upwards smile

It was many years ago, but that does sound about right.
After my Fizzy died I had to learn 1 down, 5 up, although the weirdest thing was riding a Royal Enfield in India with he gears on the right!
