So will it be Rossi or Stoner this year?
Discussion
Could go either way. (Pedrosa won't win it.)
At the last GP, all of the Ducatis had higher speed trap figures than Rossi, confirming that the Ducati IS a faster bike than Rossi's, but the genius of Valentino may yet see him gain another title.
All good for the bike race fans.
I will be attending 3 more rounds this year, so am looking forward to that like mad.

Erm, no. Rossi's bike posted the second highest top speed of 267.5 only beaten by Sylvain Guintoli's 269.7. Stoner's GP8 was behind Rossi's M1, Elias was 10th and Melandri's 14th. Not once did Stoner's bike post a higher top than Rossi's.The average of speed trap figures showed Rossi's average to be 5.5kmh faster than Stoner.

Sachsenring figures.
Stoner -177.171
Elias - 176.612
Melandri - 175.680
Guintoli - 175.059
ROSSI - 173.631
That the Yamaha is slower than the Ducati is more than obvious to anyone who watches racing regularly, but there's the proof.
I don't know where you're getting your figures from but the official timing sheets for the race are here:

It also makes little difference as the Yamaha actually accelerates faster than the Ducati, so on shorter straights like Donington usually records the highest speed, where as Ducati needs a longer run up to then claim overall top spot . . Sepang, maybe Phillip Island and maybe motegi if you look at the remaining rounds . .
Being slightly retentive I thought I'd check my memory and emotive response with some hard facts . . . It's tough reading if you're not a Stoner fan.
Bikes have changed, Rossi is on different tyres and other riders are not around or as competitive to change results either, raw stats . . .
We've 8 rounds left.
1 is completely new to all - Indianapolis
Of the remaining 7 known rounds the following points and podiums were accrued by the top 3 in last years run in to the end of season . .
Wins Podiums Total points
Pedrosa 1 2 78
Rossi 0 1 52
Stoner 5 6 155
There were exceptional circumstances such as rain at Motegi etc but these circumstances affect each rider equally and are replicable in '08.
If we look at the current points (you don't really need me to do the maths do you ) to the accrued figures from last year . .
Stoner 322
Pedrosa 249
Rossi 239
If Stoner is back to '07 pace and consistency then you could argue the others are not going to stand a chance, you could also argue equally that at this point of the season last year Stoner could only lose the title rather than have to chase it. Even after Stoner won the title last year his next 3 results were 2 wins and a 2nd.
What we haven't had yet is a straight fight between the 3, all on the front row, all within a tenth in qualifying and all looking comfortable at a ciruit. Rossi is losing out in qualifying and this means he's having to push hard in the early laps generally and losing too much time on the leader (Assen & Germany good examples). Stoner seems to have a machine needing less base set up changes at each circuits to qualify well. Pedrosa seems to consistently qualify top 5 or so which means he should be there or there abouts.
I know it sounds bloody obvious, but Rossi has to beat Stoner, as it's only Pedrosa who is capable of doing it other than Rossi consistently and if they can't get past him on more than a couple of occasions, it's going to be Stoner.
That's why I have to vote Rossi He has the master racecraft, he has a better machine on better tyres and is so hungry for it this year . . He'll get there !

My thinking entirely. Rossi is the man to beat this season. 20 points in front and not accumulated from winning the most races. Rossi's ride last Sunday was a class act only he can deliver in smoothness and control. Nothing to do with the wet. Just where his race head is at. He pushed Stoner with some ease to ride hard for that win. Stoner was shagged when he got off the Duc. He didn't seem that chuffed either. I think he knows Rossi is going to keep him very honest for the remaining eight races. i would be happy if either Rossi or Stoner won it, i think they both deserve it and are without doubt both great riders, i wouldnt like to see Pedrosa as ive never really liked him a great deal especially after the crash with Hayden but saying that when i saw him crash the other day i did feel bad for him as it looked nasty and although i dont like him greatly as a rider i hope he makes a quick recovery.
