Just a quickie...Heading home (in a car as im a wuss) and just infront of me in the fast lane of the M6 a guy on a bike put his feet onto the road.. for half a mile!!!

I thought hed loat it to start with and was quite concered i might have damaged his 1098.

Is this common?? Surely very risky, one heel catches a small bump send you to pearly gates????

Just curious!!

You sure they were touching. May have just been stretching his legs. I sometimes put my foot down for a second to feel how much grip there is when its greasy or damp.

Now that I'm getting on in years, the relief when stretching your legs in amazing. I HAVE to do it when riding on M'ways for more than say half an hour. Actually, mind those cats eyes, I kicked one a few weeks back and in bloody hurt.

If he was just gently brushing them against the road I can't see any issue TBH....it'll wear his soles if he does it for long enough but that's about it. It's not quite the death trap it may look to non-bikers IMO though!

This is nothing to worry about, probably just stretching his legs, I sometimes do it on a long ride. It doesn't hurt to have your feet skimming the road, just wears out your expensive boots biggrin

There's no such thing as a fast lane on a motorway. They all had a speed limit of 70mph and are known as lanes 1,2 & 3 (for example, in a 3 lane section) smile

The next thing will be a medium and slow lane rolleyes

I had some Bikers chop across me last night on the A3 (I was in lane 2) at 50 and then brake heavily 3 feet from my front bumper so he could get into lane 1 to turn off.

I could have decorated the bonnet with his leathers. It was insane to brake hard infront of me like that.

Well, the reason I mentioned it is because I've heard people say the reason they stay in the 'medium' lane (lane 2) rather than moving into the 'slow' lane (lane 1) is that they are travelling at 'medium' speed so they are in the correct lane rolleyes

It tends to be the terminlogy of those who hog lanes because they think they are doing the appropriate speed for the lane they are in, oblivious to the density of traffic in other lanes or to the highway code.

I've worked with people and been in the van on the way home at 4 in the morning and if its downhill and they reach 90+ they move into lane three. What are they doing? Then there was my mate who thought lane one had a 50mph speed limit and was mainly for lorries, ffs.

Seems to be what goes through most motorists heads. "I'm not a lorry, so I can't use Lane 1". Idiots.
