Now that my GSXR600 K7 is approaching 1k miles since I bought it back in March this year, I have been giving it the (cough) full beans. When I was limited to 8k revs for the first 600 miles, the temperature guage was hovering from 82 - 89 degrees and 102 if I was ever stuck in heavy traffic (although I would filter so that's usually rare).

The manual states that should the coolant temperature ever reach 120 degrees, then it's switching off engine time - thankfully that's never happened. *touch wood*

So is 82-89 degrees normal on my bike? It's normally not an issue once moving at speed but really noticed yesterday as it was quite warm and while the bike was at the lights, the temperature would creep up to 102 so obviously it got quite hot between my legs confused

My bike, 04 plate CBR rr, runs at about 80 degrees when out on the road although in this weather its been a tad higher but just a couple degrees.
In traffic it usually is up at 104 with the fan running. I would say that the temps you are getting seem normal, or if not my bike might be broken to frown

Cheers for the advice chaps. Just wanted to check what temperature you guys are running with as my mate's Fireblade (RR-X) is running between 70 - 80 degrees. His thoughts were that 89 was a tad high.

Both my ZX6Rs would get to similar temps. if stuck in traffic on a hot day like this weekend gave, I wouldn't worry unduly chap.

My Fazer doesn't even have a temp guage, in some ways its less stressful for me but I do wonder how that tiny rad copes!

Bear in mind it's pretty hot at the moment...my 'blade always runs at 86 ish on the open road. It'll rise quite quickly in slow traffic or at standstill with the fan kicking in at 100. Sometimes it will remain on for quite a while (especially if sitting in heavy traffic surrounded by cars for example) with the fan struggling to keep it at around 101.
The highest I've ever seen it is 107 a few years ago in one of those rare heat-waves...I turned the engine off for as I was just parked up waiting for someone & was a little worried watching it creep up!

Sounds fine, don't worry. My K2 runs around the same temps, and it get up to 104-5 degrees when stationary. I have run it up to 39 degrees ambient down in Nice / San Remo, and it was fine.

My K7 seems to run a bit warmer, it is often getting up to 104 or 105 before the fan comes on, and then you get the nice hot air blown across your legs. smile Not nice when you are already too freaking hot. Having done 8300 miles on mine it all seems fine with no issues. I hopesmile

My 600F goes up to 107, mainly cos of the amount of times I stop at traffic lights. frown When riding along though, 82-89 is fine.

My K5 GSX-R600 normally runs about 80ish, but can be anything from 65-70 on a cold day up to 102 in traffic when the fans kick in.

HTH.
