Thinking of suitable first bikes around the 400-500cc and have noticed a fair number of CB400s going nice and cheap. From my limited understanding these are all imports; is this correct? If so, are they more difficult or expensive to maintain and insure etc? Should they be avoided?

Cheers

CB400s are probably quite good bikes, but have a look at the 500cc twins too- CB500 and Kawasaki ER-5. There are loads to choose from and will have similar performance to the 400. Avoid 400cc sportsbikes unless you know what you are looking at... a good one will be great, a bad one will be terrible.

This is the bike that was the main precursor behind my post. Any comments for or against - I may look in on it later this week.
