I'll make it quick for you guys as it's probably been done to death, so here goes....

I'm doing my CBT / DAS 9,10 & 11th August
The instructors have advised I buy or borrow a jacket and gloves as a minimum along with jeans and sturdy footwear.

I can borrow a jacket and gloves no problem but I just don't really like the idea of wearing trainers for my lessons / test and I don't really own any 'sturdy' footwear.

There's no particular reason for not wanting to wear trainers other than giving the impression of being a bit of a ned / chav, which I most certainly am not, to the instructors / examinor.

My thinking is that if I'm going to get a bike I'm going to need boots anyway so I might as well buy them now!?

I like the look of the Sidi Vertigo Air which are approx £170 and being mainly black will probably go with a lot of leathers but I'm just wondering if I'm better off buying an 'all weather' boot and if so what are my options??

My only stipulation is that they are to be of the same 'sporty' ilk as the Sidi Vertigo boots.

Apologies for what turned out to be a not so quick post but your advise would be very much appreciated.

I have the Sidi Vertigo corsa Air which are not cheap but great comfy summer boots. they fit well and cool your feet when hot. I also got Alpinestars waterproof boots that cost me £130 that are great for winter

You could always have a look on Ebay for a cheap used pair to see you through. I got a pair for £15 last week and they will be fine for my DAS and early days on a first bike.

He's probably looking at Ducati branded boots on the internet. (which is even gayer than white boots)

laugh Don't worry, I'm wanting mainly black boots to begin with. I'll save the white ones for when I can carry them off i.e. get my elbow down!!wink

best boots I've had. Sent my Alpinestars supertech R's back when the stitching split in the external boot and replaced them with these, amazing boots. Got mine for 220 quid odd from bikers direct smile

Could i get away with the Vertigo Rain as an all-round boot?
(Don't just want to be a fair weather biker)
Or would you recommend 2 pairs i.e. dry and wet?

I thought the rains were st but others have found them ok. In heavy rain mine leaked although they were fine in a shower (again, other people's opinions differ).

I have two pairs of boots... sidi verts which I wear in the summer (with waterproof socks if it's raining) and a pair of altbergs which I wear through winter which are totally waterproof - not a drop, even in a monsoon type 'shower'.

I have some Sidi B2 Goretex, with sliders, size 44, worn them 4 times but they are too narrow for my strange right foot, cost £180. Great boot otherwise. Make me an offer I cant refuse if they are your size. Sorry for the classified, just want to make a new biker happy and safe

I use Daytona boots, they look pants but work really well. They've proved to be completely waterproof and comfortable even for days at a time. One low speed off trapped my foot between the bike and road with no ill effects.

But they do look crap.

I would definitely have been interested if they were in my size (40) but hopefully someone will get a good deal and you'll get some £££ towards your next pair! Thanks anyway mate.

Stick them on ebay - I got something like 60 quid for a used pair of side black rains in good condition.

Zead as they won't fit the OP I think I will go and try a pair on in a shop near me tomorrow as I really can't afford how much good waterproof ones are. 44 is a size 10 isn't it? Do sidi's run tight or loose?

Tight. I'm a 9 and 43 rains were too tight, 44 verts are spot on. Disclaimer - as ever try them on yadda yadda.

I've got Daytonas, awesome boots, but not great lookers. Mine were about £350. I wouldn't say they look crap, but certainly not as cool as Daytonas smile
