Theory Test Nonsense Today

Despite having been a motorist for more than a decade, and despite travelling over 50k a year for many of those years, and despite having a completely clean accident record, and despite holding an advanced driving qualification, at 12:00 today I have to sit down with a mouse and prove that I can spot a 'hazard'.
What f*****g nonsense.
The annoying thing is that if I fail I have to cancel my bike test
I've practiced and sat through countless grainy clips, so I'm not overly worried, but the whole concept of it strikes me as absolutely ridiculous. Bloody government raising more money from motorists.

They did a test on TV the other day with :
An elderly woman
A delivery driver
A Boy Racer
A Sales Rep
A School Mum.
Each one had never done the theory test before as it had come in after they passed their tests.
They were also all asessed by an examiner as if they were in test conditions.
Not one of them passed the theory or the practical!

I agree that it should be used for those with zero road experience, but if you already hold a driving license, I really don't see the point.
I don't claim to be the best driver/rider in the world, but in 25 years of driving have only had one collision, slow speed and no injuries (although the asian family milked it for every penny - whiplash my arse). 15 years of riding bikes on the road has seen me on my side once thanks to an impatient organic fruit delivery van, again no-one injured, although there could have been if he had called me buddy once more!
I have had children and drunks walk out in front of me and I've managed to find the brake pedal in time. I do not need to go in front of a computer to tell me if I am safe or not. That should be the job of the instructors and ultimately, the examiner.

& on the hazard perception it follows a bike instead of a car.

The girlfiend's got her CBT in a couple of weeks and was having a look at some of the theory tests and hazard perception tests online. Agree they look a bit silly, one clip had parked cars down both sides of the roads and manhole covers all over the place, but the only thing it seemed to class as a hazard was the car approaching the junction.
The theory test threw me, one question was something like "how should you signal to pedestrians that you're slowing down for a zebra crossing", the correct answer apparently being flapping your right arm up and down...well if I've not got my right arm on the bars I'm probably not going to be stopping in time for the crossing. Didn't even have "lifting the rear wheel" as an option

The theory test threw me, one question was something like "how should you signal to pedestrians that you're slowing down for a zebra crossing", the correct answer apparently being flapping your right arm up and down...well if I've not got my right arm on the bars I'm probably not going to be stopping in time for the crossing. Didn't even have "lifting the rear wheel" as an option

I wouldn't worry too much, I've been driving around 15 years and had to take my bike theory and hazard today. Got 48/50 (43 to pass) on the multiple choice and 53/75 (44 to pass) for the hazard perception.
Hazard perception was a pile of @rse but clicking when ever I saw a potential hazard and clicking again when it turned into an obvious hazard got me through.

Problem is, 99% of people don't bother to read the highway code after passing their test. It's probably a good idea to refresh your knowledge of it every couple of years - free to read on Direct.govS

School Mum passed driving test, as did White Van man
But as you said, they all failed the Theory Test so in real life, none would have gone on to take the practical.
Mondeo man was severely upset "cos I drive 3 squillion miles a year safely" and Boy Racer was equally upset "cos I have passed the proper test twice before"

I've done theory twice, car and bike, and practical twice, car and bike, and passed it all first time, and i still feel that the theory is a complete waste of effort, time, money, my effort my time and my money.
