Hope it goes well. Cut the tendons in my left hand on a wine bottle a few years back... all takes a bit of time to sort out but you'll be fully functioning again in no time.
put a drill through my right hand and had compound fractures of two fingers on the left after going over the bonnet of a BMW on my RGV and put my ungloved hand through his windscreen (the pissed up Japanese guy drove off). All ok after a few weeks, pain was nothing like stubbing my toe earlier, nearly cried!!

Cheers Rach, much better now, almost worth doing it again!

:shudder:

Wouldn't want to lose bits of my fingers given I'm using a keyboard 16 hours a day...

Make sure they give you some decent drugs, and don't ride or drive when you're on them... decent opiates will get you nicely fuzzy hippy

I'm out of hospital now. I have all the joints, but a shorter finger. Week or 2 off work, no bike for a few weeks :-(

Lucky sod. You'll be able to do that picking your nose trick really well now.
You know the one, the one were you're fave uncle or grandad used to do when you was a kid, where it looks like they had their finger right up to the knuckle up the bugle

Cut the finger off your glove.

After all, the damage is done.

Ohh hun!, you've properly chopped it! In my head it was a small flesh wound and you were being a dramatic man la "man flu"

Did you find the missing bit or was it kind of mashed?

Hope you get that glove on soon, you'll feel better after a good ride evil

Bah, reckon it'll make too much blood pressure!

I am left handed though anyway so not sure it'll be such a treat ;-)

So im in hospital after I lost 15mm of the end of my finger in the OH's bike chain when I was working on it. I feel like a lemon and I am gutted. I also hate the bus (again) as I've been here for ages and apparently I could be waiting HOURS. I had to ASK for painkillers!

Doh.
I can't believe people actually do that old stunt of working on the chain/wheel with the engine running and in gear.

yikes

I thought it was always one of them urban legends, like "well, he was polishing the wheel rim and, like, his WHOLE ARM went round the sprocket THREE times".

hehe

Just joking. I hope it heals quickly dude. I have to go in for a carpal tunnel operation in three weeks time, so I guess I'll be the one bandaged up, sucking down pain killers and complaining about how I can't do anything for weeks.

I can't believe my brain has the ability to filter out common sense. I will have a tidy reminder to use it in future.

Bugger frown That's your right hand index finger i.e. one of the two that should be covering the front brake when riding...

Are you going to fiddle with the front brake lever of your bike or just rely on the middle finger?

I can't lower my arm to try it out but i presume i'll have a little bit of cover but just not all. Speaking to my OH's mum who is a GP it may be a while before I can really get on a bike as it will still be way sensitive for a while. :-(

You may be OK - the middle finger is usually the strongest after all... depends on whether your bike needs a right handful to slow down or whether it only needs finger control. Assuming you haven't got buzzy handlebars like me, you may be OK back on the bike relatively quickly, a modified glove could keep the sensitive mashed end of your finger away from the lever, and you can grip the bar without using your index finger... as long as you don't touch anything with it, it shouldn't hurt enough to compromise your safety and control.

I wouldn't ride if the hospital have given you decent painkillers though. Any half-decent opiate will mess your balance just enough to make riding a bit dodgy frown
