okay, here's my dilemma. i dropped my fzr600 coming out of edwina's at mallory a few weeks ago just before lunch (DOH!) Limped back to the yamaha dealer in leicester. lovely chaps by the way. dropped the bike off and recounted my tale of riding heroism.

in the meantime i popped down to a bmw dealership and put a deposit down on a f800st for my motorway commute on friday thinking i'd put some sticky rubber on and keep my fzr600 as a weekend and trackday toy. Went to pick it up on saturday morning after it had had a few bits and pieces fixed up and whilst recounting tales of my riding heroism again made the cardinal mistake of allowing myself to sit on a new R6.

The devil of a salesperson offerred me a great part exchange price and yamaha are doing 0% for 3 years on the R6 which means i can get a brand new R6 for ridiculous pennies per month. And they look superb in white with the red trim.

fortunately i was late for an appointment so i couldn't take it out for a test ride, but i don't know how much longer i'll be able to hold out. i can't possibly justify buying two new bikes within a month. Can i?

should i keep my 90bhp fzr (first bike, still learning how to ride well) as a trackday toy with some sticky rubber for about a year and get an R6 next year?
Or should bite the bullet and get a 130bhp R6 whilst i'm getting a good deal with a view to keeping it as a weekend toy for several years?

Help!

I'd only get the R6 if you also intend getting a race fairing kit and crash bobbins for it, its a great bit of kit but truth is you will lob it at some stage and it'll cost a fair chunk to repair properly.

I saw that deal when looking for a second user bike with my son ,

to help yourself resist , ask yourself why they need to do 42 months 0% and how that will help residuals when you can finally sell it on .

What was it ,at £7499 , £499 down and 166 a month for fukkin ages biggrin

Just done some rather crude maths. The deal was £1000 for my bike leaving a balance of £6500. Now, supposing I had £6500 cash sitting in a high interst account earning 8%, I would earn approximately £1680 over three years. The term of the interst free is three and a half years so I would actually earn more. The point is that even if you have cash to buy the bike, it's better to put the cash into a high intrest account and leave it there for the duration of the interst free period and just pay the monthly fee of about £160.

Looking at it that way, I'll be making money by buying the bike! wink ok, I know that's not actually true, but it makes me feel better! biggrin

So thats a brand new R6 for 5700 or so biggrin

If you are going to milk it the max , you only need £499 deposit , so its even cheaper , take back the 501 for the px on yours and you are quids in .

I wonder if yamaha have realised they are actually losing money on selling bikes , just shows how dumb the Japs really are biggrin

Is it not the case that they offer you less of a deal on the bike, though? Although it is a manufacturer offer so the dealers aren't losing anything....but on the other hand they know they are offering you 'something' so maybe still reluctant to bargain...

If the RRP is £7500 then I'd guess it must cost them less than £4k to build and ship it. Retail is normally 100% or more markup.

R6 is not changing next year, only the colours. So thats a great deal!

This is exaclty why i went to look at the R6... i didnt buy it though. Bought th GSXR indead. My legs couldnt touch ground properly and i found it hard to ride. Novice and all! smile

At 0% finance they are just giving them away! smilesmile

I'd go and get the R6! I bought a Gixxer 600 as my 1st bike last year & I've not regretted it once - done a trackday no probs, ride it every day to London for work & touch wood had no off's.

Crash bungs & a tail tidy jobs a good 'un! biglaugh

i really wish i could post pictures to show you mine! YOU WOULD BUY IT IMMEDIATELY!

also - they sound amazing for a standard bike - i'm quite suprised its legal.

also also - all my pics are on facebook - and for some reason i can't do the thing, or the URL one either

I'm gutted - if ever there was an opportunity to show off - i've missed it!

PS - even revving it to 7k as per running in schedule it feels definitely quick enough. i read an article on MCN recently and they said it wasn't the best road bike because the power doesn't come in until after 7k or something. WHAT!? :eek

I'm going to be needing some brown leathers when its run in

Once you're ridden the R6 there's no way you'd want a Fazer for the track . . . just rent one for a track day and see for yourself . . . once you've tried an R6/ZX6R you'll wonder why they make bigger bikes smile

Lads - I can't fault your choice of bikes but in terms of finances you weren't advisors to Lehmans were you?

Well they will keep the blue colours.

I reckon they will keep the Carbon black also. Maybe with some slight changes to it.

As for white and others i have no idea.

As far as i know its not been released yet.

How does a race fairing kit differ to the normal fairing? is it lighter and more aerodynamic or just easier to remove so one can change bits on the bike?

i'm at a loose end this weekend so am considering taking an R6 out for a test ride
