faster that a 'busa
Discussion
its in the hands of the rider nowadays imho.
A well ridden litre could have the upper hand against a badly ridden Busa ,the Busa is just easier to get the most of due to its all over power band .
I ride a lot with litre bikes in the group , and on the road there really is sod all in it.
I see a lot of claimed standing quarter times in mags , but they arent easily replicated by the man on the street , I had a couple of runs a few years back and went 10.6 , but i know a guy who has been 9.9 on a stock bike .
Read an interesting article last week from the states , out of the crate bikes , a zzr14 and a new Busa , they had them going 9.5's after a short while with a pro rider .

Hence why a 400 gives most litres a run for their money up to 30
That i find hard to believe... A sports 400 (ZXR,FZR etc) has all its power at strasospheric revs where as litre bike (tho this is changing in the search for headline figures) has bags more torque and will get off the line far quicker.Fire99 said:

0-slow speeds can be amusing, some very quick vehicles just can't get the power down well enough to start with. I remember a formula 1 race preamble with Brundel demonstrating different start methods, the "granny start" (very slow to get it rolling then gradually feed in more power) was actually quicker than the "boy racer" (dump the clutch and hope) or the "balanced start" (experienced driver trying to minimise wheelspin and maximise accelleration)
I've done 0-60 in under 2.5 seconds on diesel

The reality is that any claims would be nothing more than bar-room banter or top trumps. As has been said, any of the sports thou’s (or any of the big ‘hyper-sports’ like the ‘Busa) are going to be so close to the ‘Busa that it really is down entirely to rider technique and most of us are simply not skilful enough (or ruthless enough) to be consistent in launch technique to get anywhere near what the bike could actually handle.
I'd guess a turbo busa would be quicker than a normal one. And a turbo busa with nitrous would be quicker still.
And one of these with the Ghost Rider on would be even faster.
What's the point of this thread? From what I've seen, 'speed' cross country on bikes is *all* about the rider, and any big bike requires skill to run drag races, since modern kit has enough power to flip the bike if you just monster the throttle in 1st without having a decent amount of skill...

Therefore a 400 could quite feasibly beat a thou to 30 (and get completely murdered after that!)
The fastest road bikes we have nowadays are all incredibly quick.
There's nowt between them, really.
Which is quicker than another, will depend largely on the skill and weight of the rider.
Also, on the condition and tune of the engine on the day.
Even something like tyre pressures can decide the outcome of some duels between evenly-matched bikes.
A Hyabusa is and always has been a very fast bike, but accleration-wise, something like a 2008 R1 or Fireblade will be there or there abouts with a 'busa.

Times have changed and an early Busa is slower everywhere compared to a litre bike,or indeed a 2 year old one, including roll ons, tuning aside(which could apply equally to both bikes) the newer Busa has a few more RWHP out of the crate Vs a thou and has a more torquey motor but its propelling 220(dry)kilos Vs 160odd kilos of Thou.
My M1 busa (with a measured 160RWHP)was a match for my friends (GSXR)K3 1000 but a K5 pulled a noticeable gap on it everywhere. Which is one of the reasons I bought a GSXR- apart from pilion carrying "luxury" the GSXR is the better bike in every respect.
400's being lighter than a thou?, in 1991 when you had the option of a CBR1000 or a VFR400 but litre bikes are now lighter than said VFR or 4 stroke 400's of the era.

i believe someone on the owners forum regualry beats busas 0-60 on a gsx1400, but 100 the busa is passing them again though. cant think who it is but most of his figures are from the pod rather than just bar chat.
it is all down to riders though, i know i cant get anywhere near the potential of my bike. but honestly i dont actually care, if i wanted to rag the arse off it i wouldnt have got something fulla torque so i ride in a lazy manner.
